Joy of Six 2022 Show Recap

Our club flew to the UK for our first wargaming convention abroad! There was only ever one choice for the show we all wanted to attend most--Joy of Six in Sheffield. Jo6 specifically caters to 6mm miniature wargaming enthusiasts like us! In today's recap we'll bring you along for this unique event as we discuss the games and the differences between US and UK conventions.
Joy of Six is organized by Baccus 6mm, but lots of other vendors were on hand to showcase the best range of products a small-scale gamer could imagine. It was a fantastic weekend in Sheffield and our club hasn't stopped raving about it since we returned home to the USA.
We have a full-length interview with Alex from Storm of Steel Wargaming available now on our Patreon page and in the weeks ahead we'll be sharing interviews with Luke (Geek Gaming Scenics) and Guy Bowers (WSS Magazine).
If you missed Joy of Six and live on our side of the Atlantic, you should come to Historicon 2022 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania July 22-24 for a weekend of historical wargames. Our club will be running multiple games in various scales, including 6mm!

Nice report (as usual), guys. I've greatly admired what Peter has done over the years to promote 6mm scale and this marvellous Show is another great example of the work he has done - and, I'm pleased to say, continues to do. Makes me nostalgic for the days some 20-25 years ago when I had my own 6mm collection when I ran a couple of demos to promote the scale but which, alas, I sold when work and family commitments forced me to have a 'sabbatical' from the hobby. Of course, like Arnie, I'm back now. 8-).

I hope your conversion continues apace, and I look forward to your 1:1 battalion and divisional level wargames from Iran/Iraq to Wagram. I am currently staring down the barrel of a 6mm T-55AMV at this very moment!

You have me jealous and salivating over the figures and the beer. 6mm is so scarce in Australia but is intriguing in its capacity for large battles. I have just committed to Warlord's Epic Waterloo in consolation. One of my goals for 6mm would have been the re-enactment of the assault on the ridge at Alam El Halfa, Monty's first clash with Rommel and the start of Rommel's run of defeats in the desert. At 6mm you could get the both the full 21st Dak Div and the full front of the British regiments that stopped them.

This video showed up on my suggested so I'm "new" here, is 6mm the same scale as GHQ micro armor? Me and some friends played all the time in the early '90's, using GHG minis and, I think, Command Decision was the ruleset. I still have my minis and a couple of different rulesets. I thought this scale was all gone as I NEVER see it in hobby or game stores anymore!

It's not gone at all James! It's more popular than ever! 6mm is very, very close to GHQ microarmor. Technically microarmor is 1/285th, but that's splitting hairs. We use a lot of GHQ stuff in our club, as their tanks and vehicles have always been--and remain--the best quality detail and castings available. Not cheap, but the best.
