It’s only when the fight gets above water, he could utilise his cudgel to its full extent. Nonetheless, with or without his cudgel, the Monkey is still an expert in hand combat. As he had limitations in water combat, Bajie had to accompany him as the Pig was an expert in water combat, having being the Celestial Navy Supreme Commander when he was still Marshall Tian Peng before his exile.
