I feel like Wallace Spearmon asked some damn good questions. I had never heard him interview anyone but he has a unique perspective based on his own success in the sport plus he still seems humble and real. Would like to hear him do more interviews.

Been watching when she first went to Kentucky and then in the Olympics . She’s American Treasure for the sport of track n field . When I was in college the best men were Jim Bolding was running 49’s over the intermediates. Now the world record is 45 something over the hurdles while Sydney ran 50.8 . Incredible

How do bye rules work in the Olympics and USATF Olympic Trials? Does McLaughlin-Levrone have a bye in the 400m hurdles at any point as defending Olympic champion or not?

No byes for the US athletes. Top 3 at the trials go to the Olympics as long as they have the Olympic standard or are high enough in the world rankings. Sydney actually had to run a meet in ATL to get the Oly standard for the 400mH because she didn't run the event last year. Now she has to place in the top 3 at trials to go to the Olympics.

Last year when she ran that 400m and ran the first 200 like a 200m race i said it looks like her coach was testing her to see how competitive she could be over the 200 and someone said i was crazy and don't know track. Now i can know that competing in a 200 in a championship is in her near future.

Sydney Michelle McLaughlin-Levrone is an American hurdler and sprinter who competes in the 400 meters hurdles. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion with the Games record, and 2022 World champion with a world record time of 50.68 seconds. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's exceptional talents are undoubtedly inherited from her family's athletic background. Her father, Willie, made the 400m semi-finals at the 1984 U.S. Olympic trials. Her mother was a middle-distance runner with older brother Tyler winning 400m hurdles silver at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships. However, Sydney has surpassed them all. From the start, it was clear that McLaughlin was on a journey to make history. At 16 and while still at high school, she finished third in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in a new world junior 400m hurdles record of 54.15. That saw her become the youngest American track and field athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games since the boycotted Moscow 1980 Games. McLaughlin made the semi-finals at Rio 2016, but her potential was obvious. After one year at the University of Kentucky, McLaughlin turned professional in June 2018. Just over a year later, she took silver behind Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad at the Doha World Championships.

The part thats so backwards is wanting kids to watch the sport instead of figuring out what their parents want to see so they introduce the sport to their kids. Football parents etc introduce the sport to their kids.
