Journey to Chad: The Origin of Chebe Powder & the Design Essentials African Chebe Growth Collection

One of the real treasures of the NEW Design Essentials African Chebe Growth Collection is our dedication to community and global good.
For centuries, women of the Basara tribe in Chad, Africa have accredited Chébé Powder as their secret to attaining healthy hair. Chébé is a natural organic mixture of cherry seeds, cloves, lavender crotons, stone scent and resin tree sap, ground into a fine brown powder. It’s traditionally mixed with water or oil, creating a mask-like paste which is then applied to the hair shaft, braided, and left in until the next wash day, where the process is then repeated.
With permission from the Basara tribe, we’ve created the Design Essentials African Chebe Growth Collection, inspired by their practice, just for coily and curly textured hair. Proceeds from every bottle sold goes directly back to the women of Chad, and we’re proudly sourcing our ingredients from fair trade African importers. Additionally, accessories featured in the African Chebe Growth Collection Gift Set are sourced directly from African artisans as part of our mission to support their communities.
This Collection is about more than helping to create stronger, longer, more nourished hair. It’s about community, connection, heritage, empowerment and doing good.
