Is Pineda's voice really ďeclining? You decide. Pineda has a strong tenor voice with a warm raspy tone. However, as Schon said, upon Pineda's hiring he was trained to retain JRNY's legacy sound, thus really sounding like Perry. If you watch his pre-JRNY YT, you will hear his original voice. As he established himself as a reliable frontman, it appears that he is slowly migrating back to his original sound. His voice is closest to Bryan Adams. A warm tone gives a masculine rock-raspy sound, while Perry has a high tone that sounds a bit feminish as he goes higher, his fans refer to it as timbre. Similar to Russell Hitchcock of Air Supply. At any rate, to an untrained ear, having a warm tone may be perceived as straining and therefore declining, as the haters are now pointing out. Did you hear anyone complain abt the voice of Bryan Adams, Steve Tyler, Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, or even Tina Turner? Warm tone is much coveted by male singers, so they don't sound shrilly as as they scale very high notes. Secondly, JRNY does abt 23-25 songs per concert. Towards the end, any singer may suffer from voice fatigue. With proper sleep and rest the singer can easily recover. 3rd problem is bad sound system or mediocre sound technician. 4th is inevitable. Age is a natural process, but with proper voice care, good nutrition, exercise, healthy lifestyle, one can delay it.

@@jgreen3871 Yes remember the Old Arnel going back to 2009 at Phillipines concert, his clarity, ability to stay on key and hold notes was incredible. It has naturally suffered due to father time. Saw Journey at Caesars and I was really on edge because he would crack and rasp and I was just hoping he'd get through a song without going off key. Studio and Autotune are different stories but at concert, he has to get at least close to the right key and sometimes he just can't. Some say he cannot hear himself well but I doubt that is an issue. Can't help but love the guy but people thinking he has no issues are just plain wrong or deaf. I would love to see him closer to his 30's voice but he is just human. Some consider this pov as being an Arnel hater..that's insane. Nothing wrong with being objective. No singers from the late 70's-early 80,s can hit their old keys. He is still definitely still the consumate showman.

Arnel is one of the greatest front man of all time. I love his humility. I love his personal journey. One of immense struggles to keep believing in himself. He was destined to be steve Perry successor. I loved steve. Still do but each has their own strengths.

I was present at his first debut concert in Chile in 2008. That day Arnel conquered the whole world with his charisma and extraordinary talent. That day this legendary band made a turning point and was literally resurrected. 14 years later, more mature, with a voice perhaps somewhat less powerful and a bit more grave but much more worked, professional and equally impressive, he is still able to make me cry with the dedication and emotion he transmits in his performances. And that's all I care about, his ability to give himself completely and thrill the audience. That his voice is more worn is a detail, Journey's catalogue has already destroyed the vocal cords of the greatest of all time, the legendary SP. But today Steve is a legend and Arnel a living reality, and he is the one who allowed the prolongation of the career of this extraordinary band, among the best of all time. Kudus, he has been the longest front man in Journey's historical line-up. This is no small thing and it is more than enough for him to have the respect of all rock lovers. Good to see Dean back. Your performance of "Father, Mother" is second to none, your support for Arnel and your talent on the drums are central to the band's legendary sound. Thank you Journey "after all these years". Thank you Arnel, thank you Neil, thank you Jonathan, thank you Dean for coming back. A thousand blessings to all. PD: I miss "After All These Years" in your living performances, such a powerful ballad! Insertar  Traducciones de today

I don't understand why a lot of people still can't accept Arnel as a part of a journey band. Just be grateful for this man's (Arnel) contribution to continuing the legacy of Steve Perry's songs and making the songs and band alive as much as he can. Just accept that steve can no longer sing. Remember, Steve loves Arnel to keep his songs alive. Yes, there is always an original and it's normal we can't compare the TWO different talents but please just give respect to this man for keeping the journey alive.

This is live concert not lip singing, so it's quite impressive how he sounds without auto tune well for most parts, most live concerts don't sound this good especially w multiple songs. AP still has pipes at 54 years old. I'm glad he keeps Journey is still top band! I miss SP but that's life and Journey must journey on!

Steve is pompous and thinks Journey dies without him only to the reality that all of the other band members treat this as their career. This pays for their lives. Steve tried ending that, even filed suit so that he gets paid to not do anything, Arnel legitimately sings for Steve and Steve still gets paid. This is why you will never see Perry again. Back in the 80s, I was the Executive Chef at the Saratoga Performing Art's Center. We would do all backstage catering, including all involved managers, promoters, sound, stage, lighting, roadies, and the bands needs. We were always fortunate enough to watch side stage for all the events. We watched that show. At the time I wasn't a big fan of the band. While I was side stage that evening I was blown away by Steve Perrys voice. To be that close and hear him sing was one of the most amazing experiences in my life. I never heard anything so amazing. The band was incredible, and the sound was like a freight train coming at you. After the back stage media and press meeting myself and one of my cooks had the opportunity to feed just the band in a private room. These guys were the nicest people you could ever meet. From that day on I was a Journey fan. The kids good but no one can really replace Steve. Those days were magic.

That's a nice story - yeah, for me Perry's timbre, vibrato, control - never been able to explain it, but was always impressed when this older lobster fisherman I knew (go figure) told me there's something about Perry's voice - it gets into your skin. IMO unique and irreplaceable. Also for me - with Perry, and some other performers - I just can't get behind covers a lot of the time. Rarely IMO someone does an equal or better job. Like I can't imagine anyone but Springsteen doing "Tunnel of Love". Adam Lambert with Queen is IMO rare in that regard, but even then, Freddie Mercury is missed. Although, far as I know, there's a lot of respect and love with Queen's band members, as opposed to this fragmented effort. Still can't believe on top of the whole Perry thing, Smith and Valory are gone too. Is this even Journey, really?
