Finally someone said it! I have a love/hate relationship with the “planner community” bc as someone who is not Type A idgaf and I don’t understand the anxiety and perfectionism around what is supposed to be fun and free and just for you. I assume this is an influencer-only issue since y’all post your lives bc my planning/journaling is a hot beautiful silly fulfilling mess and no one would know it. I’ve always wondered why people do this if it causes stress.

For the “I can’t do it” but “I want to have my life documented” i found that using Day One app on kinda daily basis then every once in while writing those entries in my journal was the perfect solution🫡

I promise you 'its only paper' is going to change lives. I sometimes feel so sad to waste paper and feel so scared to make mistakes in books. But I adore notebooks. So this was really refreshing to hear. It's ok if it takes a long while to finish these notebooks.... They track your life in real emotional time not a calendar year .

Wow, love this perspective so much. That's how I 'split' my time up anyway when I'm looking back on my life... less about calendar year and more about vibes.

Just found you randomly on my YT homepage! Hi! Loved listening to you as I cut up a magazine to use as future journal fodder! I know exactly what you mean by all the perfectionist stuff, I’m the same, but it’s way more fun when it’s not perfect because then you can turn your brain off for a bit!

I tell myself that my journals and planners are for my eyes only. I need them to work for me, not anyone else. I don’t care if they don’t look perfect because no one else needs to see it. And I agree - it is just paper. Don’t be precious with your journals and planners. Use them, get your creative juices out and move on. If you think it needs to look social-media perfect you will never start

Hi Claire! Just wanted to tell you how much I love the idea of "it's just paper". Journaling is something I really love but also something I come and go from, and sometimes I like colorful, high-effort pages, but a lot of the time it's a struggle to just scribble out the events of the day in plain pen. Last year I got so overwhelmed by my Hobonichi, I threw it against the floor and then ended up shelving it because I couldn't take the pressure. For the rest of '23 I've done some journal hopping but overall not worried so much about it. If I don't want to journal, I don't! I think the trouble with journaling is that life keeps moving whether you want to journal about it or not, and falling off can be discouraging for a lot of people, but that's completely normal because that's how life is. I think journaling can feel super demanding because unlike other hobbies, you're meant to constantly keep up with it, but that's just not realistic for everyone. Anyway, I hope you keep posting here. KZread is my preferred platform for journaling content and I love your style and perspective. This type of video is my favorite! Keep up the good work and thank you for the inspiration!

Thank you SO much for such a kind comment!!! You are so right, it’s great to be consistent but that looks different for everyone - I haven’t sat down to journal for five days now! And I go through seasons where I can’t stand the thought of it… even though it’s my favorite hobby! It’s a societal thing, I think, to put so much pressure on ourselves in this way. I hope 2024 brings you journaling peace hehe ❤

This was a wonderful video, thank you. I love your down to earth approach, with your words of wisdom. I’m going to try to start journaling, & planning in 2024, for the first time in decades. I used to be very organized, but now, very unorganized, probably from depression, or head injury. Probably both. I’m hoping that journaling, & planning will give me some structure, & motivation again….hopefully. Thanks again. I’ve subscribed.

Thank you for mentioning Palestine. I am Palestinian-American, and all the chaos and sorrow has led me to lose interest in a lot of things. However, i am gaining a fascination towards commonplacing. I watch videos like this and it’s one of the few things that I can hold onto. It’s also interesting because while time is fake (I agree!) there’s something about it that makes me think “I can do this tomorrow”-and the concept of a hopeful tomorrow is larger than life atm.
