    Roy manages to help his students reach their absolute limits in these demos/tests but also understands when to dial it back and allow them to continue progressing as the situation dictates. He knows they're already exhausted by the end yet he still allows for them to fight and give everything they have. It's what makes these belt promotions so beautiful to watch and I'm sure so rewarding to accomplish as a student.

    Roy Dean is similar to a conductor of a major orchestra. Joshua Matanane, the featured musician of the evening. The duel between conductor and lead musician starts from the moment Josh opens his demo with Sean. The crescendo escalates with every opponent, until everyone else is silenced with the pinnacle of the dual: Josh vs Roy. A symphony of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Congratulations!

    I just want to say as a white belt in his first week of class, I am floored by what I just saw. I legit felt like an anime where the kid saw something mind blowing and was like I am going to be that guy. My journey as a white belt BJJ student began 1 week ago, this video is a big push for me to get to the next step.

    It's tough that you have to spar with your three stripe blackbelt instructor LAST, after you're exhausted and he's fresh and ready to crush you. Hah. I guess it's a test in adversity. Great video!

  • @ctsd623

    @ctsd623

    4 жыл бұрын

    But he's probably the one you want to spar last, cos he best knows how to apply juuust the right amount of pressure to push you to the limit without injury. There's an inverse correlation between the opponent's belt rank and the likelihood they're going to injure you. (Assuming the higher rank doesn't have a reason to be a dick)

As always I love training in person but this channel amongst one other is my homework channel. I hope some day when I travel back to the USA. I could do visit a school of Roy Deans and do even one session. I’m sure I could learn a lot in a day. You channel helps me discover who I am. Even thousands of miles away.
