Nah, it's a serious moment. Despite everything, Barney loves and respects everyone in the group. At a time like this he would be listening, not making any jokes and supporting everyone.

I think it might have made things sightly easier for me first watch. They cut from 'she got sick', to meeting the mother on the platform. I couldn't pay attention to it though, because I wanted to know if she was sick and got better or died. A funeral scene would have removed that ambiguity.

I never had an issue with the original ending, but I wonder if the it would have land differently if Ted was this emotionally affected while recounting the mother's death. I guess the problem with that would be the prerecorded response from the kids wouldn't match the tone, so that's probably why they didn't do it that way. If the kids would have also been moved by how Ted met their mother, and then move to a more positive note by letting Ted know they are fine with him moving on, since him and Aunt Robin have been getting along so well, maybe less people would have problem with the finale, except for those who absolutely couldn't stand the thought of Robin and Barney not ending up together.

Marshall's character arc is pretty much complete a few seasons ago. He had pretty much no material and was bored with his script.

I believe Josh hasn't gotten bigger roles is because he doesn't want them, tbh. He has a musical project, and probably receives money till this day thanks to the show, so he might be happy doing whatever he wants. Kinda like Daniel Radcliffe.

This might seem sad but honestly all guys/men teared when Marshalls dad died.....that was so brutal deep and yet so beautiful because a dad loved his son, and his son, him 💔

The ending made perfect sense. The way Ted tells the story, it was never about the mother. The guy lost his wife, wants to move on and is trying to make his kids understand.

Neil & Jason are cracking me up with their lack of emotion 😂

I'm still so angry about the whole ending. Josh is better than me because I would have jumped Bays and Thomas right then and there

The finale was filled with terrible decisions, and one of them was tO change the script from the table read. There WAS supposed to be a scene of the mother's funeral (1:39) and they stupidly decided to cut it. The end product gave the viewers no time to grieve, never showed us the gang and the kids grieving, just, "Oops! She's gone, too bad, he loves Robin again now!" The fact they just glossed over her death was an insult to everyone who loved the Mother. WORST. SERIES. FINALE. EVER.

The WORST series finale until Game of Thrones 😅

Could be that that’s the reason they’re all crying. Imagine putting that much of your time, emotions, talent and selves into a show just for it to end this crappy way. I would cry too.

Why choke up about a side character that barely had any screentime?

Should have ended with her death… the Robin relationship was crap!
