Ordinarily not a roster spot that gets a lot of attention, but their center (Foster, an unredshirted senior) was nominated for the Rimington last year. Good place to start assembling a solid front. You said that A&M is a 1.5 point favorite over the Irish (2:47). I know the futures are out, but I can't find any odds on the individual games for 8-31. I think Fanduel, the Westgate, USA Today, etc. started posting the odds for Week 1 last year about May 1. Are they available already? You got Oklahoma and Temple? There are lots of teams like Nebraska that have plenty of 10 wins in their history but haven’t sniffed one in a couple of decades. So, what does that matter. What I do know is that A&M has a top ten roster, a QB with tons of potential and a now they have a quality coach. I mean that S-storm won 7 games last year with Jimbo and his incredible dysfunction. You know, several years ago, Clemson was just a decent program that had a really good season every now and then, until they found the right guy. Elko might be the right guy at A&M because lord knows they have all the other resources needed to compete for Championships.

A&M is very easy to predict. They are not and never have been an elite team. If you discount the period when they were sanctioned by the NCAA when coached first by Jackie Sherrill and then sanctioned a second time under his successor RC Slocum, the Aggies are a .600 team. If you start your analysis there, occasionally, you will be pleasantly surprised and rarely disappointed.

I think people are forgetting that a&m has been medicore because of coaching. Jimbo never made any good assistant coaching hires. The only good hire he made was mike elko as his DC. The recivers, qbs, o line never developed. Even the defense took a big step back after elko left. You can't rely on getting 5 stars only and not develop them. There is a reason why teams like michigian, ohio state and kentucky, who are in in states that lack instate talent have had more sucess that a&m. They prioritized player development a lot more. Elko seems like he wants to do that considering the hires he has made on this coaching staff. Don't be suprised is a&m wins 9+ games because they definitely can.

I dunno if its fair to say Fisher underachieved. Its not like TAMU has this history of significant success. 1991-1994 is the only period in program history where they consistently won at a high rate. Fisher's performance was consistent with the program's historical norm. This is a program with one double-digit win season in the last 25 years. Josh seems convinced that this program should/could be doing better, but until a coach actually manages to do so, that's just speculation.

Josh's argument is not wrong. He has said that A&M has the resources that the other elite teams have. They have the facilities and money. They have the high-ranked recruiting classes. So why do they not succeed at an elite level? It's been the coaching. That's why he calls it a turn-key program. They appear to have everything needed to compete at an elite level, but A&M has a history of hiring coaches who aren't able to utilize it. Hopefully Elko is someone who can, but time will tell.
