Just exquisite. My late wife drew my attention to the perfection of this song and she was right about so many things. Re believing; it took me a while. Just know Christ is ready when you are. He said, "...take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

I'm an atheist, and this is definitely my favorite Xmas song. I think it's one of the most stunning songs ever written. A lot of religious songs are absolutely beautiful. Believers do know how to write music, gotta give them that!

​​@@23bruceman​ so I was just looking up the history of this song, and it turns out that the original poem the lyrics are derived from was written by a non-religious French poet and wine merchant (who had one hand), the music was composed by a Jewish atheist, and the song was banned despite its popularity because of this. Then eventually the lyrics were translated into English by a unitarian minister, but he took some pretty big liberties with his translations. So since the music and melody, which is where most of the beauty of any song comes from, IMO, were written by an atheist, I'm not sure that argument holds water. And the unitarians, well, they typically only view Jesus as a prophet/ wise person/ possibly supernatural and have no official stance on whether god exists, so I don't know that that lends your argument any credibility, either. But I don't disagree that some people are very moved by thinking about their religious beliefs, and that they can be inspired by such to write beautiful music. Personally, I fail to see why the idea of the Abrahamic god is so appealing to some people, but Jesus had some good things to say.

I have heard many versions of this song, but this is the best one that there ever was! Such an angelic voice created by God Himself!

Tears always come to my eyes with “Fall on your knees…O hear the angel voices”. Lovely version.

Many Christmases ago, I was driving in a rainy night when this song came on. I literally had to pull over to listen to this BEAUTIFUL rendition of this song because it filled me with tears and I couldn't see to drive. Lol! When I got home, I immediately called the radio station and asked them who sang that song. They told me and I replied that Josh Groban has a New Fan! Absolutely Beautiful!

My second Christmas since my father passed away - in the years after my mother's passing I discovered this rendition of O Holy Night (the best solo version performance IMHO). My father and I loved it, and we had to turn it up every time it came on the music streaming channels. I have always loved this carol. Now it's meaning is even greater, dearer. Yes, only two Xmas songs bring tears, this version of Oh Holy Night and the TSO Christmas Canon with the children singing

I'll never forget when I was watching the 2002 New York Christmas tree lighting this wonderful singer came out and brightened up the night singing this song.

I am far from a Christian like the opposite, but this song just takes me back to driving home in the dark while it snowed as a kid feeling so at peace with this song. It was practically a lullaby. Heard it just now on the radio and it took me back, I started tearing up.

I totally respect you are everyone else and if you believe that that is totally fine, I just believe I was meant to have a different journey with learning to he my own god and not rely on one to save me. A beautiful version yes. As to whether or not it is the best version - well beauty is in the eye of the beholder or, in this case, the ear of the listener. For another version which is also worthy of hearing try Emer Barry. One additional query - how came there are 322 dislikes (December 17, 2019) for this version. Don't know what they expect from, what is, superb singing and music.
