Josh Dirksen | The Bomb Hole Episode 140

Ойын-сауық

This Pacific Northwest powerhouse has been pro for 25 years, changing lane’s and recreating his focus for relevancy through a heavy presence in the media with influential video parts, cover’s in the top mags, contest win’s, making moves from air time to slashing and touring, creating the Dirksen Derby not to mention doing big things off the hill though product testing and design but most impressively taking part in climate advocacy work through Protect our Winters. This week we talk what make’s a good turn, boot drag, Mt. Bachelor, Morrow Snowboards, Longevity, video effects on culture, a master class discussion on board tech, how to ride really fast and so much more! You can count on one hand the list of pro riders who have stayed relevant and held the status and pay check of an a-grade pro for 25 plus years. Today we are blessed to have one of them sitting in the booth with us and you know we plan on grilling him on the secrets oh how he not only pulled this off over the years but did it in such a way that he would have an effect on a full span of generations through multiple disciplines of the sport in such a way you might think the Josh Dirksen you saw over 20 years ago tossing 900’s off jumps and launching casual 16’ high one-foot airs on quarter pipes might be a different Josh Dirksen then the one who is in the movie “Deeper” touring on a split board with Jeremy Jones to never been shredded peaks. Join us on this episode of The Bomb hole as we sit down with this Oregonian often referred to as the King Of Mt. Bachelor and do a deep dive into the psyche of this veteran level pro, Josh Dirksen.

I moved to Bend in 06 from the east coast and rode 165 days that winter and the place blew my goofy footed mind. I saw Dirksen boosting huge ollies on the windlips and it had a huge influence on my riding. Bachelor is a mecca for anyone wanting to slash and bash their brains out!!!!

Growing up as a young snowboarder in Eugene riding willamette pass and making the drive to bachy once I hit high school, this was fuckin awesome to listen to. An absolute legend, who continues to write his legacy. Thank you!

Always loved Dirksen, I was a huge Morrow guy back in the day from my first board to selling them up until the K2 buyout. So good to hear some old stories abd talking tech. Josh is always the guy I shout out loud every episode when “most underrated rider” is called out in Hot Takes. Watch his old parts and count how many times he has a sketchy landing…. BOLTS almost every time!

The pre guess!!! Also with wider boards it def gives you slower turns but it's more stability and can get deeper on carves in slush or packed pow without booting out. On hardpack/ice wider boards really feel sluggish compared to board that you have a little overhang on, can't really change this it's a physics thing with being able to get more leverage. I like to have a slightly more narrow twin for harder snow and the thicc boi thats more setback and freeride shaped for the surfy slush and pow days.

Great interview with one of the best, really loved hearing about filming with the robots. I can relate to the idea of keeping gear, I just got a new board after 12 years on a Burton Easy Living and replaced an Airblaster kit after 10 years. Lots of heavy use and kit really just wasn’t cutting it anymore, probably pushed it 2 years too long. Replaced with Volcom 2/3L which back in mid 00’s had good experiences with. Prior to 2010 I used to be into replacing everything after 1 or 2 seasons. Trying to keep stuff for longer and really only replace for the family as kids grow out of it, but always gets handed down the line.
