A well-balanced ensemble of five people and the sound of the harpsichord that surrounds it. It was great.

You can clearly tell that each player is thoroughly enjoying themself, as well. Well done! You have a new fan (:

And me as well. As a learned tenor recorder player this ensemble is the gold standard. Light years from the players available to me which are unpractiised old amateurs that can't play a simple line correctly or in tune and think they're good!

@@informatimago It looks like they are playing voice flutes (not altos) which is basically a tenor recorder with lowest note D - which gives them the same range as a baroque flute. It would make sense because these Boismortier 5-part concertos are originally written for flute...

…to me, anything lower than a tenor, even with multiple players on the big recorders, sounds like people talking in the the foyer while a performance is going on :) …it only works if it is a very isolated well miked live performance…and of course when people make videos, and adjust the balance with recording equipment….I’m not encouraged to take up the larger recorders because of this…I think people are encouraged when playing the large recorders alone because of course then they can hear themselves …I’d say in a recorder quartet you can hear the tenor clearly…the lower recorders even then sound to me like a person humming into the instrument and not really a recorder…at least on quick passages…

Beautifully executed; the trouble with wooden flutes (including the transverse varieties) is their inherent Tendenz to not be able to play perfectly in tune (or as the great Mozart once opin’d to his father ‘the only thing that is more out of tune than a single flute is...two flutes!’)

@@donaldgoodell7675 you are mistaken. 432 is just as arbitrary as 440. 432 was introduced in the 1980s in one of the new age "Samuel" books, supposedly written by a spirit and channeled by the author. The book purported it to resonate with the heart chakra, but this is not part of the Hindu or yogic traditions. The idea has since taken off online and been purported to be an "ancient solfeggio scale" practiced by medieval European monks. This is a misunderstanding of music history. There were only local musical standard pitches until the 18th and 19th centuries, and woodwind instruments were made in matching sets. For a history of European pitch standards, read Bruce Haynes' book "The Story of A."
