Josee Koning meets Antonio Carlos Jobim

It was 1993, and I was invited to come to Rio de Janeiro by Dutch TV personality Tineke de Nooij. She was making a small documentary called “Samba in your blood”, and wanted to know more about my passion for Brazilian music. She arranged for us to meet with maestro Tom Jobim. It left me emotional, speechless and overwhelmed.
When I told Tom I recorded three Brazilian albums with my band Batida, I was ashamed to say that I didn't include any of his songs. He told me to think about it next time...
Back home I decided I really wanted to record a Tom Jobim album, and invited the maestro himself to participate. Much to my surprise he agreed. But when the recordings were about to start, Tom Jobim passed away at the age of 67 on December 8, 1994. Like many other lovers of Brazilian music, I was devastated. To honor the maestro, I recorded the album “Tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim” in 1995. It was arranged and produced by another maestro: Dori Caymmi, a great friend of Tom Jobim.

Sad to know there's a lot of lost music that he created during his lifetime I hope someone discovers his lost music and shares it with the world.
Mister Jobim or maistro Jobim will ever be a musical wonder of wonderfull sounds , so typical Brazilian and sensual , I was there in 1979 visit the botanical garden Jardin Botanico , in Jobims neighberhood bairos . Michel Franks makes that year , the song Jardim Botanico of his LP Tiger in the rain , beautifull day brasil on his best...always sensual in everything ! Thank you very much for this post !

Happy you were able to share moments with a HEAVYWEIGHT of 20th century music! Your t.v. friend almost blew it with strange interaction, I could tell, too self assured and probably knowing very little of Jobim to ask anything meaningful. Yep, would have NEVER mentioned your Brazilian recordings, at all! Tom, an Original!

Actually I have one of your CD's Jose (the tribute to Tom Jobim). From 1997, I was living in the southern part of Brazil at that point in time. You where amazing! I still have your music. I just wanna tell. you "Thank you!" from my heart. Because we have music in our blood...

Wat een geweldige ervaring moet dit zijn geweest, op bezoek bij Jobim, het zag er ongedwongen uit en gezellig, mede dankzij Tineke! Even ook een snelle inkijk hoe mensen componisten beschuldigen van leentjebuur bij andere componisten . . . ik zou het eerder inspiratie willen noemen.
