Hey this is the second time I'm watching TOE with Curt Jaimungal... I'm glad you popped up on the feed again! Tbh: the first time I seen you I was quite taken aback by how unabashed you were when you would give your own takes and dive into the subject with your own speculative and critical reasoning. Slightly cringy at first, yet I was entranced by this. Curt Jaimungal questions a giant in the field!? Oh no!! Are mere mortals allowed to question like this? Speculate like this? Are we allowed to have such technical conversation in long form? Shouldn't you explain the basics? But people are stupid right? Btw all those questions are rhetorical... No. Your channel seems to be one of those milestones in the history (in this case communication; ) I particularly enjoy how it is presumed for the most part the listeners are informed with much of the prerequisite domains required to understand. In other words? Your channel is going to go down as one of the *first* channels that gets to the farthest into the minds of these great thinker's concepts without demeaning the listener/viewer's capabilities... I was skeptical at first; but now I really applaud you... you now have my sub...

This was an excellent guest which I have heard elsewhere (Lex Fridman?) I loved how Curt allowed him to speak to our current political / societal state of civilization. With so much noise, it is refreshing to get some quality signal!

He is brilliant in his field (as in impressive, one of the absolute best), but the social commentary was blatantly wrong. The woke movement is not about social justice. An incompetent subsegment of the overfed white American upper middle class was intoxicated with nihilism and used the inequality of minorities as an excuse to validate their low IQ. Non of those gender studies types are socially functional. Lena Dunham only exist because resentment without self-examination is trendy. That is why minorities do not give the slightest crap about pronouns or roughness if they see a way to a better life. That is why immigrants are still a thing. The net profit of immigration is positive for them. They got big because of social media, and the clustering of information that made that propaganda effective, because these ideas existed for decades. It is not a problem of inequality per se, because Eastern European/South Americans/Asian countries do not present this problem, and they do have inequalities. It is the perception of the white middle class of being robbed, because technology made life harder for them (respect to the past), because the rest of the West now competes effectively, so an American from the middle class does not have the wealth of a circunstancial winner of a world war. An advantage that took half of a century to fade. The middle class feels poor because they don't have the benefits of their grandparents, and is artificial, because having the same problems other countries think they are lucky because they have more than their grandfathers in the Cold war era (Eastern Europe e.g) The woke ideology spread fast because of the internet, but the delirious nihilism of the incompetent segment of the upper middle class only was absorbed by the middle class because of an artificial perception of not getting what they deserve as Americans. That is why immigrants using the same system feel lucky, and the middle class whines. They are objectively better under any parameter of life except accumulating wealth as in the previous generations. It is a surrogate, because Americans used to fight for wealth. And now the middle class sees its harder. Danish or Germans that do not have that dream, feel way better about themselves,, and they don't feel depressed seeing that someone has a Ferrari in an Instagram picture, because they didn't base their expectations in the equivalent to the "American dream". Peterson is right, it is a crisis of meaning, but for the Anglosphere, particularly Americans. The American dream is being replaced with he woke fight. And the guy is does not see himself as a priest but a prophet, he is just one of the flock warning of the critical flaws of the ideology. It is not a real problem if with the same conditions other cultures see it differently (unless you believe in American exceptionalism, which is part of why nobody in America even conceive in checking other countries to see if it is a a universal problem)

@@cristianproust @cristian proust my interpretation of what Bach said is this: He said that Jordan Peterson is suffering and that seems to be the case. He doesn't say that Peterson is a priest, but that he would be one if he wasn't suffering. Bach doesn't make a statement about the social justice movement other than saying that they are trying to level the playing field and when Bach says "we" have to make heterosexual kissing in public illegal, it's of course not his opinion, he's just giving an example. Bach is not supportive of the social justice movement or else he would not give such a crazy example as outlawing heterosexual kissing. Also, clearly Peterson does not have an answer to the question asked by the woke movement. Only read the bible and if we don't stick to that we're doomed. Bach doesn't say he agrees with the social justice movement or the woke movement and he says that he does not have a solution. Seems to me he describes a loss of meaning too when he describes how globalism made salaries and evaluation of a person's worth go down. He mentions basic income for everyone as an alternative, but says that it will probably not work. Now, we should have a discussion between Bach and Peterson. That would be interesting.

He can say exactly how whatever he is talking about fits without any contradictions into a larger whole. That allows him to clarify and qualify precisely whatever he says and to speak articulately and without hesitation about whatever the topic is. But there’s also the Relative Reality (Dual Consciousness) which is aware of itself and a seeming world. Both Realities are not separate, not two, though. They are non-dual. To me that would be limiting as an artist. I value both feeling and ideas. For me if I have a feeling that crops up out of nowhere I set my mind on a task to express that unknown feeling like a game where I am given very little and need to unwind the meaning or source of said feeling. Sometimes like remembering a name suddenly that you forgot, I get fragments of a larger puzzle to reveals itself to me. Whether this is through a few pen strokes or a few stanzas of a poem, I am getting to the heart of the feeling. In this way feelings and ideas coexist for me. I can complete a long poem just by diving into an unknown feeling and exploring what pops up from my subconscious through intent and willingness to slowly capture and piece together a whole image of that feeling. Sometimes this can take years but to me it is part of expression and personal development to combine both. Ive found that after I fully embody a feeling into a concept that matches my cultivated worldview and perspectives, the feeling tends to go away like capturing a demon. That to me is a loss of inspiration and many times I have to feel something to have the impulse to create again. Over time it becomes an archive of my very essence and I am not repressing anything anymore. It has all been captured and brought to the surface. Many times feelings mean that you still have something repressed and haven't faced yet or captured. Once you capture any feelings you can be free from being controlled by them subliminally on many occasions. Ignoring feelings can also lead to psychological issues by repressing or supressing them too much to focus only on ideas

Interesting metaphysics. It's the best explanation of constructivist mathematics I ever seen. Josha makes explicit the priority of mathematics over physics as the most fundamental level at which our knowledge exists, contrary to common sense and the implications of computation being a physical process and the universality of computation a principle of physics (This is what David Deutsch calls the mathematicians misconception, since most mathematicians are platonists who believe the human mind has some special ability called mathematical intuition, dualised by Josha's theory with the interaction of attention as the controller of the history of the simulation , that let's them identify which of the mathematical objects they know of, correctly describes the physical world. He also makes explicit the solipsism/idealism of the theory when he says we don't exist in the physical multiverse but in an abstract simulation space which we navigate by directing our consciousness according to our desires and impulses. This is Plato's forms by the way, not much new. The best parts for real were a couple of sober computational descriptions of the mind as the software running on the brain. The theory even runs into a paradox but Josha justifies it by saying that the paradox isn't a problem of the theory as an explanation of the world, but an indication that the "model" we talk about and call free will is wrong. So a paradox identified when we develop the consequences of Josha's theory is justified as a defect in the "model" of free will, which of course Josha has no clue what it is.

Yup. Not just constructivism, but also full intuitionist philosophy of math. BTW though Brouwer spoke of solipsism, the idealism of Heyting etc. has not been limited to that. I like to make a distinction between mathematical Platonism and intuitionism, in the sense that Platonism is historically committed to immutable eternalism, whereas intuitionism is open to evolutionary and participatory process philosophical idealist ontology of mathematics. Constructive evolution of mathematical languages also participates in the process philosophical idealist ontology of mathematics. The "simulation space" corresponds with Plato's cave, where our desires and impulses cast the play of shadows, and is in that sense process philosophical participatory creation. Intuitinism goes very well with Bergson's philosophy of time, and the latter is also very closely related with undecidability of Halting problem.

Joscha Bach makes the classic mistake by which one recognizes all those who are hopelessy lost in abstraction: he confuses the ultimate with the first. He takes what comes at the end, the "highest concepts", that is, the most general, most abstract, the emptiest concepts, the last smoke of the evaporating reality - his concept of "pure information" - and puts it at the beginning as beginning.

Everyday life offers innumerable opportunities for little mindfulness practices. When you cultivate attention you can make informed decisions. 2:41:13 - Our society has lost it´s future. In this summer of 2022 I have metaphysical conversations even with a salesperson in the supermarket. Everybody now senses on some level, that all these disruptions point to the end of civilization as we know it. People are basically helpless and turn to depression, agression or distraction in order to push away the sensation of doom. I decided to intensify my practice of yoga and meditation in order to keep my spirit up and open. I want to be a lighthouse in other people´s storm. Joscha´s perpective increases my understanding of the dream I am dreaming and of the dream in which I am being dreamt. I am very grateful. And a big compliment to Curt Jaimungal for this interview. Nicely prepared questions and great ability to step into Joscha´s stream of consciousness and ask for clarifications without sinking. I am grateful for it answering one of the trivial burning questions I have had for most of my life. why do we enjoy and become engaged with movies so much. They feel real when we are watching them. I think they engage the same models that we use when in those situations and so feel real. This leads me to think that those models are indistinguishable from what we perceive as reality. Perhaps a way of defining everything in the multiverse, but at least in our universe, is that is a direct contrast from the void of non-reality, such as at or beyond a black hole singularity, and also in terms of knowledge of our universe, at or before the moment of the big bang. The absolute void of what is unknown shapes the knowledge of reality, in the same way as Wittgenstein said in his 'Tractus' "I have made everything clear in my book by being silent about it."

And Peterson lke Priest i was laughing a lot bc i think total the same..One got the truth long time ago so doesnt need to explain bc is something that need to experience ( we can relate Thomas campbell here also even not being same thing bot come from experiencial phenomena ways ) and the problem is not about aphasia :)))) is about when you understand easy some things then is like you dont understand why another doesnt..but happens...its true that doesnt help in communication : / And Peterson wants to get the podium with lights and old books., he dont like the bible bc he wants to write his own, soon in amazon haahah....i can calculate that moment.... if someone want to see Peterson a liiiiittle bit humble , nanohumble, can go to search the interview to Sir .Penrose with him, evidently stopping to Sir.Penrose like always but at least putting his head down like a kid with his priest on school...honestly..i think that man is very creepy with all his up and down emotions crying and biting all time... i think is dangerous how many young guys follow him like a "father pattern"... not sense at all...maybe less tears and wolf-testosterone...they need a strong-intelligent-rational pattern ...then it would be much better if they follow Richard Dawkins! :)) once more THANKS a lot once more for your work! and you DO GREAT!!! is just people is looking in the wrong direction why the world is running like is running...so do not desesperate bc you are doing a great job to help to clarify and amply minds in this chaotic world! keep rocking!! be well!!
