José Parlá: Phosphene

Following a near-death experience with Covid, Parlá visited his hometown of Miami, Florida, and began experimenting with painting outdoors, a stark contrast to his industrial studio in Brooklyn.

Nature, brilliant sunlight and distorted visions and memories from his medically induced coma inform this new body of work consisting of ten intimate-sized works executed during this fertile period of painting, as well as two characteristically large-scale paintings.
