Josée Vachon: French-Canadian foot tapping lesson & song ideas!

Музыка

I´ve had a few recent requests for this, so here is a rough, but quick description of how to accompany yourself with fiddle tunes, French-Canadian sing-alongs, etc.

You put a smile on my face, and transported to the past for a few minutes. Thank you.

I say you about 20 yrs ago in Waterville Maine. I enjoyed your music and your personality very much. I still do. You also helped cultivate some appreciation for my own French Canadian background.

Love it! Thank you so much for the explanation. As an ancestral Quebecois, I try to understand my roots, and this is a common thread in so much musique Quebecoise. It even appears in that charming video Crac! by Frederic Back. Now I'm going to practice.

I grew up in a Metis community in southern Saskatchewan in the 1950s and that rhythm is one I heard every time music erupted in our homes or at community events. Such warm memories it makes my heart ache. Your personality reminds my so much of many of the older francophone folks in our little village and the surrounding area (older when I was a wee one ~ seems young now :-) ). So precious! Thank you, sister!

Thanks so much! I can relate. Whenever any genre of music plays that gets me emotional, I find myself doing this tapping! It’s part of our makeup! Glad it brought warm memories for you 👍

My mother tells me her father was a good step dancer. He died many years before I was born, and this made me think of him. Thank you. I will try it tomorrow. It is past midnight now. Too late for those sleeping in my house! 😅

Not sure it would be quite the same beat! I do tend to do this tapping when I´m listening to other music that lends itself to it (I love to do it to Puerto Rican plenas, for example)!
