Oggi, 16 maggio 2019, ricordo con grandissima emozione, quella sera di quasi 45 anni fa, quando ebbi la fortuna di poter essere presente allo spettacolo con il quale il grande José debuttò nel mondo della lirica. Considero José, e lo dico senza retorica, un grandissimo uomo ed un altrettanto grandissimo attore e cantante. Ancora oggi, a distanza di 45 anni, riascoltare la sua voce ha suscitato "recondite armonie". Grazie José!!!

Such a gorgeous voice, with both passion and refinement, from an artist who faced death at the height of his powers, returned to his career with a somewhat different but no less beautiful voice, and whose lifelong energetic dedication to art and philanthropy is an inspiration!

The smalto on Carreras' voice is unbelievable. Even richer than Di Stefano and no problems with the top notes, an excellent Bb in the opening arietta and a solid high C with Caballe in the duet. What a voice!

Carreras to my mind was the greatest - I have never enjoyed an opera or concert to the extent I did when he was in them - absolutely beautiful powerful voice - and full of feelings and emotions- he made you feel his performances.

How exciting then and still is, what a beautiful Tenor and Artist! His voice timbre is unique shining youthful with rich colors, and I like that it did not age as much as others'. Thank you for posting,

This is in the time when Jose Carreras was a bright young tenor on the rise and some people were wondering if he was even better than the two most popular tenors in the world, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. He was a different sound and the voice seemed to have strength throughout his vocal range. Perhaps, most people do not know that in the mid-1980s, Carreras began to show signs of fatigue, and on July 15, 1987, he was diagnosed with acute lymphocitic leukemia. He underwent chemotherapy and bone marrow surgery and returned a year later in concert, again. When you hear him singing with the other two tenors in "Three Tenors" concerts, you are not hearing the voice that awed the world, just a few years earlier. This recording shows the dfference in his voice.

I am kind of "hate" three tenors stuff... but it was a great marketing effort to the general public... I was told that it was not a real opera goer's thing at all. But Carreras had gorgeous bright open handsome voice, kind of a reminder of Pippo, my favorite Italian singer Del Steffano. It is absultely glorious to see Jose on stage at his peak, with his handsome appearance on top of his shining voice on all stages. He is unique and never less than Pavarotti nor Domingo. @@downyc

Sigurno jedan od tri največa tenora ovog vremena. Naravno, mladi Kareras prije opake bolesti.

Aquesta interpretació del Josep Carreras és simplement brillant i sobretot el que aporta al personatge és EMOCIÓ. Per mi és el tenor per exel·lencia que arriba al cor. I aquests fragments de l'any 1975 arriben i de quina manera. Bravo i bravo, com m'hauria agradat poder-lo veure en directe duran aquests anys.

Graziano Battisti, sei stato fortunato. Un cantante cosi lo senti uno ogni cent'anni. Io pure l'ho ascoltato in Carmen ed Herodiade..era quasi cosi e resta un ricordo sonoro e umano indelebili.

A mi juicio, uno de los mejores tenores de todos los tiempos. Bravo maestro Carreras.

not so, his timbre has the ringing tone, squillo, very youthful, has been till later years. That is his trademark.

I criticize Carreras many times , buts he does sound beautiful here

non spinge, e la vecchia technica, la technica dei grandi. che vuole tanta forza muscolare, ma i cordi sono liberi e fanno questi suoni grandi meravigliosi.

Lo dica ai suoi tenori di oggi di farlo… vediamo chi spinge… rimbambiscono in una stanza per il volume, poi per cantare in teatro, senza microfoni sono nudi come vermi… proprio perché spingono

splendido qui - però si sente che costa, costa....

Aveva una gran bella voce … durata poco per le scelte di repertorio sbagliate purtroppo…

Ha avuto una leucemia… vorrei vedere chiunque al posto suo. Aveva una tecnica saldissima… vorrei vedere i non Tenori di oggi fraseggiare e cantare così.

@@edoardomanzardo2133 certamente , però anche prima della leucemia la sua voce non era come agli inizi , comunque a me è sempre piaciuto e rimarrà un sempre un grande tenore che oggi appunto nn ci sono.

yes, among the 3 tenors, there is a less famous tenor but very close timbre, shining voice, Neil Schicoff, Jose is always my pick for lyric singing.

No, stop this nonsense! There were a handful of great tenors and he was one of them. Be grateful we had a choice at the time; Pav, Domingo, Bergonzi, Gedda , Bonisolli etc-not only great singers, but also personalities! Count your blessings and stop dismissing great artists!

Una voz hermosa pero mala técnica y mala elección del repertorio con el consiguente declive temprano, antes de la enfermedad ya tenía problemas de emisión y su voz sonaba forzada. Una pena
