Jordan Williams wins 8-7 over Casey Swiderski in a wild match 😳😳😳

Context: Jordan Williams is the OSU wrestler (Orange) and Swiderski is the opponent. Jordan Williams was a bit of an underdog and at the final period he was up 7-2 and decided to coast and play it safe. He ended up being taken down making it 7-5 and he escapes making it 8-5. Well, he then began playing if super conservatively and was given 3 stall calls which gave Swiderski 2 points making it 8-7. Swiderski had Williams at the edge of the mat and the time expired so he was yelling at the ref and pissed he didn’t get the 4th stall call to at least tie the match.

Jordan was up 7-2 then got injured. No doubt if not for the injury Jordan would've coasted to an easy win. I've noticed that some athletes will take any win especially if they're being dominated but Jordan was up so much that he could afford to stall. Swiderski was obviously out matched but I do give him credit for the half hearted handshake. I remember Roy Jones being cheated in the Olympics and the Korean fighter knew he had lost but honorably raised Roy's hand acknowledging the true winner. No that's a true athlete!

I think that's the reason he was stalling my dude. He was the underdog... his opponent may have underestimated him at the beginning, but he didn't have the stamina to keep it up. 2 stalling calls and a forgone 3rd stalling call means you didn't have it in you.

I was at this event. Williams was up 7-2 and somewhere between 2nd and 3rd he got injured. Leg I believe and was a major reason he was “coasting “. His mobility was shot compared to the beginning of the match where he gave Iowa St wrestler fits. If Swderski wrestled the 1st like he did there he would’ve majored Williams.

No. He didn't act like a warning plus a point plus a point wasn't valid. Calling another on a hair trigger at the end is a bit too much ref deciding matches. If you have any sustained time stalling...OR that end was a blatant backout...there needs to be a willingness to call what you see, which is different. But the wrestling that worked toward that out of bounds area wasn't running out or backing out of bounds...and he stayed put in his position without backing away at the end. He stayed there for a few seconds. So there was no movement as opposed to backing out...AND wasn't stay still long enough for another call. It's ugly wrestling in the 3rd...TOTALLY agree on that...but it is a win.
