The funniest part of this interview was after it, the BBC carried out a full audit of their own pay structure and found there was more men being underpaid than women and because of it more men got raises than their female counterparts, classic .

I am a woman and retired Engineer, this interviewer has been drinking too much angry feminist kool-aid. What Mr. Peterson is saying is absolutly true, if she would listen to his answers instead of trying to bait him into an embarrassing sound bite she might learn something that would make her life more fulfilling. I had two very different career paths in my life, counseling and coaching until my children were on their own and then through some unexpected turn of events I became an Engineer in an Aerospace firm where I worked until my retirement, 15 years later. If she would listen he is trying to tell her there are several critical criteria which determine outcomes, she is looking at an average outcome without being willing to listen to the contributing factors, she will end up with unintended consequences much worse than where she is now because she would not look objectively at all the facts.

Great post. There are so many instances where studies only tell an overview that points out that there is a difference, or a problem, or a gap (between genders, races, etc...), but none of them offers any real dive into WHY. It's then, usually the media that takes that study, and starts writing their own opinions, without looking at why. The why is so important. Anyone who wants to know the truth wants to know why.

She's is more foolish than disingenuous. Trying to shoe horn the interpretations the thoughts of a psychologist is similar to translating a language she isn't fluent in. There are 19 reasons he can give on the pay gap. If women really want to close it quickly then they will have to work in career fields that are undesirable. Engineering fields, high risk high reward outdoor or ocean voyage commodities, and 80+ hour workweeks dedicated to management. These are filled by men because traditionally women have not chosen these fields. Social sciences and education are off limits as they are on the lower end of wages and hold back the gender gap. And then realizing that stay at home women raising families who don't earn income are still calculated into the equation. Their choice of major in college will have to be in studies that put income over interest as well. 5 women compared to 1 man earning 0$ would cover the %9 alone depending on the country and region within that country. I don't blame women for not wanting to work unfulfilling, unhealthy, or inflexible careers after college. Wanting to earn more will mean giving up goals and desires as a result. Women in male dominated fields vastly out earn their peers the same as male RNs earning more than most female RNs. She mentions 7 out of however companies are led by women but hasn't asked the more important question: how many would choose 12 hour days as CEO over having children, seeing family, staying married, or just plain unhappy as a person. Who would choose earning a million annually guaranteed if a perk package covers a new car, miserable off hours, unpopular and cruel decision making, and the best healthcare for chronic and declining health.

Respect @Iulia Bianca, good for you for prioritizing your soul and happiness over the dollar bill. Jordan has said before that the pay gap is not really men vs woman, it is more accurately, men and woman who don't prioritize families and pause their careers to have kids vs woman who do have kids. Simply put it's like this, if you are very good at what you do, companies will promote you to the top and pay you big, *REGARDLESS* of what you have between your legs, and the second your value drops to them, companies will forget you faster then you can scream "male patriarchy" if there is someone they can replace you with that can bring in more money. You are only as good as the last quarter in their eyes, because share holders mean more to them then your happiness. Welcome to capitalism, it is far from perfect, even a bit cruel at times but based off history it seems a lot better then the alternatives since this system has pulled more people out of poverty then any other system in history.

This was a legendary interview, for a few reasons. One being that she knew she was massively out classed in intellect and knowledge so she took a very combative strategy, which works a lot of the time because it causes people to stumble, get mad, say the wrong things and generally get discombobulated. Jordan Peterson took it like a champ and stood his ground, stayed even keeled and used his intellect and knowledge to fire back over and over.

Agree. Because he's infinitely qualified to talk about the subject and he regularly says "this isn't my opinion, I'm telling you what the clinical data says". He's not trying to defend his opinion but rather tell people what the real data says. Oh and this is all data from a field of study dominated by liberals on the left (which he is actually one). If anything the studies bias to the left not the right.

It's the fact that JP is constantly trying to point out that statistically men do the higher paying jobs and therefore statistically men make more, and she is constantly trying to spin his words to make him sound misogynistic. The seven women on the British version of the fortune 100 list for instance, statistically more men aim for that particular segment of society so of course statistically more men will be there. Just like how more women go into nursing so statistically a man in nursing is going to have a female boss. Edit: he's trying to go into the fundamental difference in male/female psychology that underlies these statistics, and she says stuff like "so you're saying women are less intelligent than men?"

I'm from the UK, I watched this interview when it happened. She tried SOoo hard to make him look like an Evil misogynist and failed so hard at learning anything from this very enlightening interaction with this very accomplished professor. to take it further, Channel 4 (where this was shown) were so embarrassed by this that they made out they got death threats from his fans... so if they can't make him look bad directly, they started a Twitter rage war to make him look bad by-proxy . Exactly. I just got my haircut and the 26yr old female hairdresser was telling me she has no desire to have kids, or even be in a relationship. She still lives with her parents, who she almost had her older, so they are retired, I’m their late 60s. And I wanted to point out to her that when she’s the one in her 60s she won’t have any family around…. People (mostly women) seem to want to rely more on the government now than their families. It’s sad.

One thing I witnessed in my professional years was how often a male colleague walked in and straight up asked for a pay raise ... And received it. Yet, my female colleagues sat back and waited for a raise... And waited ... After two years of hard work, I chose not to wait for my next performance review. I arranged a sit down with management and stated I was worth more than I was earning and expected a salary increase. Because I was aggressive, I not only got my raise, I got better benefits, as well. Sometimes I see women waiting, instead of boldly stating their worth.

I went to a therapist for anxiety and she helped me see where I needed to start saying "no" to people, including at my job, bc it was putting too much on my plate to take on others problems or take on way more at work simply bc the bosses knew I wouldn't say no, I was stressed, so when I started to see where I could say no and could do it in a respectful way, I stopped taking on other people's jobs and stopped having panic attacks at work. I became way more successful at my job too and got better year end evals. Edit: learning to stand up for one's self, men and women, is empowering and life changing

Not quite. She has an objective and very intentionally misrepresents what he says to fit the narrative. All he has to do is agree with her once and she's "got him" and nothing else he says matters. That's why, on the rare occasion he does agree with her, it's in his own words rather than a flat affirmative. She's pretty good, but uses a sub optimal tactic. She uses, attack attack attack and eventually they'll slip, works surprisingly well on most people. The best method for her objective is to actually get someone in the habit of agreeing first, then start twisting it. However, she's not really allowed that option for a few reasons, first and foremost being that she's bound by the narrative.

His focal point isnt helping young men fight back against the attacks from feminists...I dont know where you got that, because he explains it over and over again in many interviews. It just so happened to resonate with young men more because more men watch youtube more than women. He has many lectures where there are women who sit in and learn. he is a clinical psychologist so he provides therapy for both men and women. He was a professor at a university and taught men and women. The idea that his focal point is towards young men is a fallacy by legacy media designed to demonise J.P. and promote "toxic masculinity". He even makes that argument in this exact video that he isnt solely focused on men.

"Why should women put up with those reasons?" That's like asking, "why should women put up with themselves?" We're talking about sex differences in personalities, preferences and priorities that are rooted in evolutionary biology/psychology. Now here's some math no one wants to talk about. You have 100 men and 100 women. 70 men and 30 women are working in management. In that job, the men earn $50k/year and the women earn $55k/year. 70 women and 30 men are working in customer service. In that job, the men earn $20k/year and the women earn $23k/year. The 70 men in management earn a total of $3.5 million a year, and the 30 men in customer service collectively earn $600k/year, for a total of $4.1 million/year. Averaged across all the men, their incomes are $41k/year. The 30 women in management earn a total of $1.65 million/year, and the 70 women in customer service earn $1.61 million/year, for a total of $3.26 million/year. Averaged across all the women, their incomes are 32.6k/year. That's a difference of $8400/year less per woman! Ermagerd! Women earn 20% less than men do! Women deserve equal pay for equal work! This is so unfair to women! Even though in my example, a woman earns 10% more as a manager than a man does, and in customer service, a woman earns 15% more than a man does. THIS is why you can't only go by one variable.

I knew I would rather not work overtime, men usually do, I knew I would rather take my vacation time, men are more likely to let that time roll over, etc. I knew if I got married and had children my family would become my primary focus and I would sacrifice work opportunities to the benefit of my home. Media, school, entertainment LIED to me in my youth that a woman could have her cake and eat it too and be just as happy and successful as a married man. I have been happiest being a house wife, just like my mama, my hero, was. Women have to grow up too and stop pretending that your family deserves to sit second place to a job.

30:29 - This is the biggest point that is lost on people... she's dwelling on some national general statistic being different than another one, and as soon as he proposes a potential reason, she dismisses it and pivots back to the general "good or bad/yes or no" nonsense.

20:14 there’s a big time lawyer from my area who spoke of this in his later years. The dude had a family and literally spent all his life focused on law. He spoke of many regrets, missing simple things as his child’s little league games or concerts, anniversaries with his wife, all because he was motivated and driven in that direction. Like he mentions, it’s not a moral or ethical call, it’s just an observation from data, that certain men are more likely to tread that path than women. Note: I am a man and I’m not one of these people. I don’t understand why someone like Tom Cruise (who clearly has enough money to just live) doesn’t retire. There’s a drive within certain people, which I don’t have, and his foundational point is we shouldn’t punish or hinder that.

Most celebrities have an expensive lifestyle. Sure they could retire but it’s often not enough money to keep living that way and it’s hard to go back to a regular life. Take a look at johnny depp he spends so much money that he would go broke if he stops shootings some movies from time to time. He has a private jet , a yatch , 14 homes , 45 cars , 40 full time personal staffs just that cost at least 10 million a year to maintain

The budget listed was everything from dance lessons to tutoring, sure great stuff, but not “necessities”. You are right. There is a lifestyle change that even just more than basic needs aren’t enough

The blue versus pink helmets, let's go line by line. Blue dye used in plastics is available from multiple countries that compete, which brings prices down. Pink dye costs more because it's sourced by just one country that doesn't have to compete. On top of that, blue dye requires lower temperatures to integrate it into the plastic. Meaning less energy is needed to make a blue helmet, therefore a lower end price. Also, ALL non-pink helmets cost less, because EVERYONE is willing to wear a blue helmet, or a green one, or a black one, or a white one, or a yellow one. Only a small subset of just women adamantly insist on pink helmets, therefore a pink helmet necessarily has a smaller share of the helmet market, and could be considered a "specialty or novelty item", which necessarily demands a higher price because it's not as scalable. Bitch, call me when the cashier at Walmart calls security on you because you're trying to buy a blue bike helmet and women aren't allowed to do that, and I'll change my mind. Until you do, I'm calling bullshit.

I love how he neatly sidesteps her landmines. "So what you're saying is (states something not even close to what he said)?" "No, this is my point, as an answer to this broad question, within this larger context." "So, what you're saying is you think the one f**ed up side is correct, and the side I prefer is crap?" "No, what I'm saying is (patiently explains, yet again, as if to a child)." "So you'd love to dominate and exclude women, wouldn't you?" "No, what I actually said was...." She is a big practitioner of the 'gotcha' conclusion, or as you say it, Van, the leading question, trying to get the person she's interviewing to defend something messed up, that they in fact never said at all. Luckily, she's not very good at it.

@@charliesanders6930 Fair enough. We're in the same general vicinity to each other, I think. After reading your comment, I realize what I had in mind was that she was not very good at it when it comes to opposing him -- it may work a treat against someone else. As your apt imagery suggests, he's playing chess while she's playing checkers. I would quibble with the assertion that her having her own show is a proof of her being 'good'. These days, that could simply mean she's 'doctrinally pure' among the ranks of her ideology. Jordan sees through all that, with a clear, unwavering gaze: The fallacious 'reasoning', the bumper-sticker tropes, the false syllogisms, the distractions laid across his path to get him off topic and thus dilute his message. She's all about the sound and the fury, while he's in service to the significant. She's selling the sizzle -- he's selling the steak.

I really liked your open approach to hearing what the speaker had to say. It is so funny how closed minded some people can be and how they just want to argue vs. having an intellectual conversation. He kept saying there a re 18 variables in the pay gap and of course the only response was "so it is gender based". I would have enjoyed an actual conversation where she asks him what are the other variables and how do you think we can address them. I enjoyed your commentary.

I watched this video elsewhere, but it was incomplete. I ended up here looking for more complete footage. Aside from Mr. Peterson sharing my own observations on these topics over the years, two things in particular struck me: 1, One needs must ask actual questions, rather than presumptuous, leading remarks; and then one needs must LISTEN to the responses, at least consider them even if not necessarily accept them outright. 2. One must always question; but I'm often floored by the gross determination that discussion tends more toward competition than conjecture and analysis. This all-or-nothing approach is in large part what holds us back as a society and a species.

@@mickeydrennan1576 Talking about the "production of wealth" is the deflection. This isn't an apples to apples comparison. The collective earnings of men measured against the collective earnings of women is about as disingenuous as you can get. Fewer women are in the workforce (housewives) The collective time all women take off for maternity leave and subsequent fewer hours worked henceforth, the fact women dont demand a raise as often as a man does and arent willing to quit if they dont get one and in general, zero women can be found in high risk high pay fields like deep sea oil rigging means your argument has no merit on its face.
