    I listen to him every morning before I go to work.. He gives me courage like a father.. I don't have anybody so it feels like home somehow when I wake up super early, take my time with breakfast and just sit there listening to him before I go to school working as a teacher myself eventho I have a severe chronic illness.. I often cry but I still force myself out there..

    It’s pretty eye opening to listen to a true genius and how connections and bridges are made between his thoughts. It’s almost like all knowledge is laid before him and he can see pieces being connected to one another. It’s almost like two or three logical steps happen between each thing he says. He makes leaps from one idea to another and when he sees the crowd can’t keep up, he goes back and does baby steps for us simple minded people. Unreal. It’s good for everyone else that he seems to have a good heart and good intentions for humanity.

    People say that about numerous different topics. They can't all be taught. People who suggest such often are not in favour of more fundamental things such as the gospel or teachings of Christ being taught. Then they think that teaching about all manner of less central things will ameliorate societies problems i.e create a better world.

    It is possible by researching motivation and will, and human cognition subsystems - software developers can create more adaptive A.I. systems. Current deep learning machine intelligence can be plugged into random computer video games, and with no instructions, in a few hours those systems become expert players of the video game - with no 'knowledge' of what it is it is actually doing. Create more powerful mathematical models of motivation systems, and potentially unleash new A.I. to develop far more complex systems... Such as redesigning an automobile engine with the goal of maximizing power and efficiency while minimizing the total number of parts and reducing maintenance.

You can watch his energy sharpen and he leans forward when he's imparting something he KNOWS will land. He knows because he's attached, justifiably attached, to what he's saying - he has spent a lot of time thinking through it and reducing it to its most communicable essence. He is first and foremost a teacher. They said this about Bernstein. He was the most brilliant when he was teaching. It was his sum total. His highest self.

    From my own experience, the intelligence does make you a better person. Intelligent people have the ability to understand more about the Universe and the nature of things around them in general. If I were to compare myself before my undergraduate and now in the third year of my PHD, I would say that we are two different people with different values in life. Moreover, I have noticed that the people with low intelligence get aggressive quicker and in a greater number of the cases.

    Mr. Peterson ends by saying we shouldn't confuse people's human value with their intelligence. That's a noble sentiment. Unfortunately we live in a society that doesn't care much about our "value as a person". Few of us are able to make a rewarding career out of being wonderful human beings. Most of us succeed or fail largely on what we can accomplish. Sadly, most people on the lower end of the intelligence curve are destined to lose at the game of life, and they will be just smart enough to feel terrible about it.

  • @alexstokowsky6360

    @alexstokowsky6360

    This is not a society which calls for "the best" however. It calls for "good enough" which is why customer service jobs are outsourced to places where the person barely speaks English. It's all about "saving money" and getting employees "on the cheap". Even the most academic jobs are outsourced to take advantage of the exchange rate. I don't believe there is a ton of "opportunity" for the very knowledgeable unless other social and economic criteria is met. I believe the most valuable people are the most under-hired, and are similar in demand as the most invaluable people. THUS HIGH IQ AND LOW IQ ARE EQUALLY WORTHLESS. Take a highly intelligent person who goes to State University because his family cannot afford Ivy League and are not well connected....he will never be able to break into political ranks due to him not meeting socio-economic criteria. Look at who gets the top jobs in Government. You will never find some highly intelligent, dedicated, but financially deficit and socially unconnected schmuck from Iowa in those top jobs. This is not a Golden Rule World, since intellectual gifts and hard work are likely to lead to nothing but tail chasing and a life of mediocrity.

    Be careful to confuse a person's value with career or 'accomplishment' value with value as a human being. That society doesn't care about our value as a person is a problem that Petersen posed for his audience. Were I a person in that sub-83 IQ situation he noted, I would be of little marginal worth to the world, but equal in intrinsic personal worth -- unless I were a psychopathic criminal burden on society. As I heard one say "A life well lived is never a loss", and as another has still more famously noted that to those who "have been given much, much is required." Billionaires and Nobel Laureates are not the only ones elegible to win "at the game of life."

  • @zr1rob

    @zr1rob

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@alexstokowsky6360I think you conflate socio-economic value with intrinsic value. I think a higher IQ is more socio-economically valuable vs lower IQ due to the intrinsic potential therein. Albert Einstein (to take an identifiable example) did not begin his career with an "Ivy League" education (German vs. US levels of course) but his positions in his early career did not hinder his later accomplishments. Obviously, Einstein's intrinsic abilities coupled with his ambition drove him to success, while other men with the same level of IQ will not achieve the same level of success due to circumstances including their lack of ambition. My point is, HIGH IQ is extremely valuable vs. LOW IQ because having the higher IQ and its intrinsic potential is much more valuable socio-economically.

  • @juliangarner56

    I’ve seen these clips before, but it was great to return to them, clickbait or not. I’m not, I like to think, the dummest kid on the block, but I still need repeated views of Dr Peterson’s lectures/talks to absorb them properly. My experience of learning is this: first, you know something. Later, you revisit this knowledge and view it again, in whatever form of study or reflection, and find that you really know it. A while later, it may be years, you find that you really, really know it! And on an it goes, as you drop down through the layers of complexity - or, paradoxically, simplicity - until eventually, one assumes (I don’t know, I haven’t got there yet!), you attain perfect understanding. The humbling thing about Dr Peterson is that, whilst he repeatedly declares uncertainty about his own understanding, to most of us, I sggest, his grasp of complexities is off the map! Regarding the clickbait issue; I’m surprised people don’t flag up the shere entertainment value of the good doctor’s insight and ruminations.

I can never remember the name of that but I have it written down somewhere. Very friendly people, but difficult to communicate as so few speak English (compared to most countries) - and I'm terrible at foreign languages.

    Peterson: "Positive emotions say you're moving forward toward your goal. And if you encounter something you don't expect, you stop. That's anxiety. The more powerful emotions like pain might make you get out of there.". I went on my first date in 2 years a month ago. The date was great, I opened up, we got along incredibly. She ghosted, and I was devastated. It hurt FAR more and for FAR longer than it should have. I've struggled with anxiety all of my life and I felt like stopping. The immense pain made me want to quit dating, after just starting and being snake-bit. Peterson, amongst others, inspire me not to stop. I know what's going on inside of me, and know the solution is to brush the anxiety, the depression, and the apprehension aside and to continue putting my best foot forward, and to continue to pursue my goals if I want any real results. I've been on 3 other dates with 2 other women since it has happened, even though the pain was (and still is) severe. There's so much you can find on KZread and the internet about how guys like Peterson are "hurting" the social fabric, and how they're "bigoted nazis" and blah blah. But the simple fact that they're helping someone like me (and countless others, I'd imagine) with this internal struggle of finding happiness on very basic levels should say alot about them, right? Most people were fortunate enough to grow up in households that facilitated the thinking and emotional strength necessary to reach these goals, and be happy, using the tools inside of them. I, and many others, weren't. He has helped me sleep. He's helped me go out and meet people/make friends. He's helped pull me from depression. And he's helping me get out, and start dating. I don't listen to much politics, or pay much mind to the gripes about him. But I CAN say that I'm very thankful for him, and the real emotional struggles he's helped me with.

    I'm not a Jew and I think what you wrote is true. I think a spirit is born into a particular family, culture, religion, heritage, tribe by Gods wisdom. I reason that the Judah tribe, heritage etc is a special one. I don't believe in being jealous, I believe in emulating and learning from and that includes from the Jews. Is it unfair ? no, souls differ before they come to earth, valiance differs for eg. Some spirits are more valiant for the cause of truth and others less, there's a range. This has some bearing on where you are placed among the parents, families, tribe, heritage, nation etc on earth.

    The Jews were the ancient covenant people. The modern covenant people go out of their way to the extent of 2 years inviting people to the message at their own expense to bring people into the restored gospel, yet most people reject them and don't listen to their message. How sad, that is like : 2 men who are better educated, better spoken, better dressed, healthier, from stronger families, better prospects, more knowledge about God and then someone in a shell suit, no job, no education, dysfunctional family saying : no, I'm not interested (we know best).

I went in 1995 to the Tony Robbins seminars in Aspen/Hawaii; I was motivated by the fact of getting the tools needed to sort myself and live a full life. I met wonderful people from all over the world. When I got back home I felt worse and could not figure it out why. Mornings I had to do stretching exercises; I was sooo tense. Barry A. Depends on what you use them for. Like any measurements in the individual there are outliers: low iq person who is successful businessman, high iq person who can't cut it in the real world, however in larger groups iq measurement works extremely well. Take a bunch of 14 year old children, do a group appropriate iq test on them all. What odds will you give me in a bet that the top 1/3 will be more successful (by any measure of success relevant to socioeconomic status) than the bottom third? Of course the next difficulty is how do you apply this fact usefully, but that is another story. The fact that society doesn't know how to apply this fact appropriately may be what you are trying to get at, but it doesn't make iq tests worthless.

Times I've had to go where people have nothing to lose I've always been sorry that I've blundered into that situation. My brain doesn't need the thrill of darkness or danger. I get all the challenge and danger I need driving in traffic with idiots. I know folks who love drama and thugs and crap going on constantly. I want things clean and all sanitized and safe...the suburbs ( that I finally got into after 30 years of crap hoods ) suit me fine. Some of the people I grew up with are dead from drugs and aids and here I am a retired Grandma living the good life ( finally ) from the mostly good choices I've made over time. I was not born to a decent life at all I had many disadvantages but I wanted that good safe and wonderful life.

    Another mistaken assumption by grouping races by their IQs is thinking that IQ is caused entirely by nature or DNA and forgetting the nurture element or the way that these people are brought up. Each group of people has their own values and ways of maintaining them in their peer group, and it must be noted that certain values put into action either encourages the fostering of healthy cognitive AND EMOTIONAL ability in children or HINDERS those abilities. It is a great mistake to group people by their apparent physical makeup over instead the VALUES of the people with which they identify themselves with. This issue contributes to a lot of racism - defining people by their physical bodies instead of more accurate sources of causality for action or inaction which are VALUES- and ANYONE can adopt ANY values and live by them regardless of what they look like on the outside. This is one place where psychology and sociology meet

The good news is that we may be able to do something about this in the not so distant future, either with brain-computer interfaces or with genetic engineering.

    Because it show us how to allocate resources wisely. During the Dutch Colonial systems, the Dutch Government subsidised a state of the art Medical School for the indegenous people in Java (STOVIA). One of the criteria was the applicant has to be in possession of IQ 105 of higher, among other things such as completing high school with good grade, spoke Dutch, etc, etc. The result was astounding! Within 15 years the entire Colony had the best indegenous Medical doctors in South East Asia. This method was adapted by the Indonesian Government after its Indipendance. It is still now one of the best Medical School in South East Asia. Resources are not to be waisted. And honestly, if only 10% lives below acceptable standard, that’s a good thing. Same thing with the other extreme within the normal distribution curve.
