The little girl earthbender in the group does Mantis. Man, I feel like such a dork.
I knew it !! His range as an actor is truly amazing.
That's My Grandpa!
Absolutely amazing video WELL DONE
I learned Kwong Sai Jook Lum Southern Praying Mantis from 5th generation master Gin Foon Mark in Minneapolis. I found it was extremely difficult to learn, but I studied it for many years.

Is it possible that's Gin Foon Mark's teacher doing the form later in the video? It sure looks like him!
Very good to see this footage, thanks for sharing.
there is another family of bamboo forest temple southern praying mantis, that never mention, between iron ox lee and chu ya nan, there is zhong's,and one of his official generation, named master Phan Bao Shen, spread the southern praying mantis to indonesia, sumatera island.but i cannot find even one of zhong's family video...my master learned directly from master Phan.after i saw many videos,i still cannot find the same style with mine..
badass looks just like our forms. :) awesome to see that in a kwan tak hing (spell bad) movie. traditional hung gar and s. mantis in a 50s kf movie. i luv it.
Trying to know Toph's martial looks like in real life it's really amazing

@@Cailean_MacCoinnich telling me a 14 years old to quickly grow up is so nice of you and makes you look immature and funny for some reason lol ... Got it all mutt
Boy! Just think, this film is as old as i'm(made the same year) 😳
Wonderful! Real! Looks like a These guys really know what they are doing from a martial point of view
Great mens. Great Style. Great video.
Wow wonderful..
This is excellent footage of Southern Mantis.
wow cool
I was able to buy two Kwan Tak Hing Wong Fei Hung movies in SF's Chinatown. Would like to get more, including this one. Are any of them available subtitled?
100% perfect
So beautiful I cant wait till I get to the forms like that
This is great footage.
Master Mark is softer than any other Mantis teacher. If you meet him, shake hands. His hands feel like a gas! In spite of his softness, his tecniques have amazing power and also can turn his opponent's strength against him, even at 85. If you live in South Jersey, you cna learn his system from a long time student, who believes in softness at Omniwell, 55 Lakeview Rd., Gibbsboro, NJ 08026.
wow the guy is a true master like you dont see anymore
the juk loom i learn is from henry po yee. the 3 step bung bo is in the vid we do that and the way they turn around too. we do that also.
come on please, more where these came from
It appears jook lum has a different angle of approach than chow gar which tends to be more forward facing in its forms
Amazing skill demonstrated
Yeah, Toph. And I never said Hung Gar was related to Mantis. But Toph, an earthbender, does use Mantis postures in the Avatar cartoon, even though all the other earthbenders use Hung Gar movements. That's all I'm saying. I'm not stating anything at all about the actual styles themselves.
there is a high quality six harmonies mantis teacher in b.c. he is definitely one of the highest ranking ones in north america.
fantastic!
Good clean, fast gungfu. New respect for the Southern Mantis. The old masters from before firearms were a cut above.

Obviously there were firearms, but they weren't knee-deep in them like now.
No the little girl in Avatar does to hakka mantis notice the stomps she does in the cartoon and her guard stance. Hung Gar doesn't have a stance nor a guard like that. The movements in hung gar are more open.
Anyone knows where one can get this movie? And is that "little guy" at the end who I think it is ??
good kung fu !

Nice 👍🏾
Вот это настоящая работа.Посмотрите как мастера двигаются.Не то,что сейчас в наше время.
For completenesses sake, in the Avatar animated series Toph Bei Fongs style of earthbending is supposed to be based on Chow Gar Southern Praying Mantis. But... Well, that's distant relationship to the third power.
How did these guys do against the other styles in HK in the 50's?
hi.. can you send link to watch movie plese
Interesting, the first form looks sort of similar to what we call Three Step Arrow.
Great
I know, but that little girl's movements are based on Mantis. I mean in the cartoon (I don't know her name).
Sharp right leg... 3 scissors
Your "name" says it all !!!
Lol. They're around. You just have to know where to look for them.
To be honest, I don't see a lot of similarity between northern Mantis and Hung Gar (my sifu was a Hung Gar and Bak Sil Lum stylist for decades before moving to internal styles about 30 years ago). Toph's movements are based on southern Mantis, though. Very different from northern.
Is there SPM offered in New England?
When I learned it we were more forward facing.

Where did you learn it from?
I find the misnaming claim a little hard to believe. Northern Mantis styles, like most other northern styles, tend to be less imitative than southern ones.
This stuff is crazy cool, I wish they had good teachers of this in Canada. People don't respect styles like this but I sure as hell do.
Maybe an influence on Krumping?
Wtf? If this movie was made in 1956, Johnny Depp wasn't even born yet.
Vdry old i know but where could one find the rest of this film?

I only know of 2 films where Southern Praying Mantis plays prominent part - this film and invincible shaolin. So I dont know where to get more from but i'll try!As for the school its Jook Lum and it seems very similar to the Lee Ying Sing Pai.

spinsaw It's mentioned already, Jook Lum, it's a contemporary of other schools like Chow Gar, Iron Ox, etc. Moreover, Hung Gar is not a Southern praying mantis style. It's completely different.
Sitai for woman master.
Oho,this Sifu Lee Ying Sing teaching
