Jonsered cs2165 Case Assm 48mm build Part 1 & Brake Clean "Air Leak" Test On Husqvarna 576xp

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Part 1 of a 5 part series on building a really fun and useful 65cc saw on the 372/2172 chassis. Why? At first it was because I got a nudge by Bob to build one. After the completion I realized there ARE some advantages over the standard 372 X-torq / 2172 X-torq saws that are the current factory offerings. SO what does that mean?? A hobby type like me can BUILD a 2171/372 based saw starting from a dead X-torq for less than buying a new saw WITH simple tools anyone has access too from places like Lowes and a few from HLSupply
Back In The Shop Again! Demonstrate a fast way to check for an air leak from a bad crank case bearing or seal.
Actually TWO things demonstrated in this video, How to check for a bad crank seal in ANY chain saw and How to assemble chainsaw crank cases in particular Husqvarna 365/372 cases.

Nice to be working on a saw build with new case halves and OEM parts. I am doing something similar but with an 038 Magnum so I appreciate what you are doing. Found your channel over two years ago when looking for a steer on saw building and have been enjoying your videos ever since. 👍

Looks as simple as can be when you do it. Stressful thinking about the whole process and destroying something. Thanks for taking the time to share that. Recently picked up 30 hp Scott Attwater to hopefully restore for my aluminium fishing boat. Wish me luck. Need to source throttle/ tiller handle first. Thanks Walt

Great video, thanks to you knowledge I've leak tested all my saws and found one that I didn't realize it had an issue and fixed it before catastrophic failure.

I let my cases sit up overnight after I tighten down the case bolts. I will retighten them the next morning before I start assembling the saw. I do put blue Locktite on all case bolts.

Thank you for this video. I'm a long time lurker of your videos but this brakeclean demo is exactly what I needed. I just put a 390xp back together with a fresh oem top end. It had been burned up by what appeared to be a straight gas scenario but now it's exhibiting some odd idling and I'm worried about a bearing/seal leak. So I'm going to try this before I break into it again. I wonder though, if you had found it only needed a seal can a new seal be pressed into that bearing or does it still need the whole bearing with integral seal... Thanks again for this!

When I finish building a saw and it is reasonably broke in I spray everything with break cleaner to see if it developed any air leaks. As yet, I have not found any but I still check. I use the Walmart variety of break cleaner because it is cheap.

Always relaxing watching you with your builds, Walt, if I may ask what is the difference between the 2165 and the 2065, as I have the 2065 and love it like one my kids, lol!!!

Not much different, there were some minor changes to the cases and the top cover. Think the 2065 had a single ring piston. But everything I'm doing here would work starting with a 2065...infact it would be BETTER to start with a 2065!

@@afleetcommand Oh don't worry unless we have a major bearing failure, I will keep this saw, and last year we had the seals and carb replaced and it just runs so well!!!

That's an interesting way to diagnose an air leak on the PTO side...is it possible to spray down the flywheel side with everything in tact? Thanks

Yup, shoot it in the flywheel side towards the front. No QUITE as definitive, but it will slow it down

Do you think deletion of the base gasket contributed to the bearing failure?

  • @afleetcommand

    @afleetcommand

No, that saw was stock as it came out of it's original as delivered box. It had a base gasket. If I was to speculate, I would say RPM's or a tight chain might have contributed. Along with a wax oil at 50:1. None of which in of them selves would have, but in concert in a production environment may have helped this saw to where it is :) I know how this saw lived

You boys think I buy nothing but Stihl, but you are wrong. I have quite a few pieces of Husqvarna equipment. Today, I bought a Husqvarna 122C string trimmer to augment my Husqvarna 128L weedeater. I wanted something lighter and handier than the 128L. I is using my standard 40;1 Stihl Ultra brew..

Did you say a serious user runs these saws 24/7? For how many weeks? I don't think amphetamine psychosis with a running chainsaw in hand is a great idea. Without the amphetamine, I don't think many folks would still be awake at the 48hr mark. And with it would be very tough to hit the 72 hr mark. You are expelling a huge amount of energy cutting trees down, some workman's comp wants to limit handfallers to only 6 hrs/day. So these tweakers, and I say that with the highest respect, must be owner/ operators. Any one that can do a couple 14 he shifts is a real man, regardless of what he puts in his body to help. He needs all the help he can get. I like to shake dudes hand. Though his hands probably violently shake on their own, without me helping. Cheemo my friend.
