Surf Series: Surf's up! Get barrelled in the 2023 Surf Series collection including new cambered Mind Expanders. Discover and shop the Jones Surf Series: 👉 www.jonessnowboards.com/133-s...
The 2023 Jones Surf Series debuts a completely fresh look across the collection. The clean and classy black and white racing stripe graphics are inspired by one of the most iconic graphics available in Christenson’s surfboard line.
The other big news regarding the 2023 Surf Series is that the Mind Expander, Mind Expander Split and Women’s Mind Expander all feature a new profile. To improve edge hold and turn performance in variable conditions these models are now built with a Surf Camber profile. Adding camber between the feet makes these Mind Expander models more versatile, but the playful board feel that defined them remains unchanged thanks to the V-Core profiling of their wood cores. V-Core makes the flex softer between the feet and stiffer in the tips so you can butter all day, yet not fold the board tips. The Mini-Mind Expander retains the Surf Rocker profile as lightweight riders see more benefit from the added float offered from rocker starting at the back binding.

    It's unreal, not gonna lie. It's an expensive hobby but even when the board doesn't turn out the way you expect, it's still a good experience! So jealous of the guys who can take advantage of a full factory.

    Going back n forth between the ME Twin surf camber or burton process camber. It's going to be a tough decision. But I cant lie, the more I hear about the ME line, the more I want to ride one.

    @@CDarcy1 appreciate the input. I've been riding a 152 GNU Rocker for the last 8 years. Really been wanting to transition to something that'll give me more control without totally sacrificing my ability to ride in some powder. Only reason I've been considering the ME Twin. At the same time, ME may seem a bit niche, not exactly daily driver.

    Cool stuff,and nice shapes. These days I have zero interest in having bindings or having any board flex. Its all about true Pow surfing. I feel the future of Pow Surfing construction is Two layers of either carbon fiber/fiberglass or plywood, one on top and one on bottom, with a foam core in between, and a board atleast 1" to 1.5" thick. Then play with shape from there. This will stiffen up the board immensely and give the ultimate snow feel. I want a Ferrari in the powder with ultimate Pow feel and power transfer, no loss of energy into board flex. A super stiff board with no flex will allow you to truly feel the powder, no interruptions or buffers.

    What powsurf are you riding now? There's a few thicker 3d boards out there, but I don't find you need much stiffness in soft snow . I think we need to stop talking about boards that are partly designed to ride hard snow, that's not powsurfing to me. That's what marketing is doing, calling everything "surf" even when it has bindings.

    @@ieism1 Agreed, I don't currently have a POW surf, and you're right you don't need a stiff board, but it does make a difference in the feel. Coming from a longboard Surfskate background, I went from flexy bamboo boards to super rigid 1.5" thick boards made from 2x12 planks, and the difference is huge in feel. It all comes down to preference really. In Powder, a board with flex is absolutely fine, but I can feel even the slightest amount of flex in my boards. Having a super stiff board that has close to zero flex is just a different feeling, one that I greatly prefer.

    The storm chaser was the absolute GOAT last year in Japan. Stoked for the 2024 drop

  • @atledalva5583

    @atledalva5583

    I disagree. The storm chaser is the worst board ive ever owned. For instance, the pointy nose and low rise of it loves digging into hard pack bumps throwing you on your face. This makes the board horrible for lift accessed pow because hard pack bumps (where you usually pump for speed) is something almost all pow zone entries and exits have. Also, if you love going fast, having no tail is a big disadvantage as it can save you if you get slightly off balance.

    @@atledalva5583 have you ridden similar shapes before? (Like the Rossignol sushi). Admittedly, we had 1-2ft of fresh most days during testing in Japan, and spent most of our time out of the gates. But it was amazing out there. Nipped through the tree lines and had enough volume to keep speed when others were sinking.

    @@snowboardingdaysand its exactly those types of days this board is terrible. When your done nipping through trees (which this board is admittedly good at), and need to get back to the lifts over a flat but bumpy valley floor or a snow covered creek, you usually need to follow in other peoples tracks. Thats when the long, flat and pointy nose of this board LOVES to dig in to any abrupt bump or compression. A good example of this type of terrain is the exit of the south facing pow runs in Furano.

    Love the evolution and reasoning behind the shapes, but not a fan of the boring white and black color schemes. Just my opinion, but would rather have more exciting colors like past years that stand out from the terrain for safety and photo op purposes.
