Jones Hovercraft Snowboard Review

Although it looks like it would just be good as a powder board, I was pretty surprised that it rides much better than I expected on groomed runs and unpredictable snow.
It has a mostly camber profile, so it has a very solid and stable feel, but floats without effort with the big rocker nose (that also has a whole lot of spoon shape to it).
The short and stiff tail means that it is super easy and quick to move around in tight trees, and you can lean so far back and always rely on the tail to hold it all together.

    Good stuff Lockie! Your comments re lack of leg pain/fatigue with this board are very impressive. I love to check one out.

    Some of the best on-snow reviews I've seen. Lots of good points that aren't just rehashed marketing wank. Adding in great footage that is a joy to watch and analyze is a real bonus. If you find some cons to how a board rides, don't be afraid to point them out. I wish you luck and hope you get to keep it up!

    Thanks! I have though that most of my video reviews are quite positive, I tend to stick to boards that I know I will at least like a bit - next season I try and get out some more on stuff I think I wouldn't normally like!

    @@SnowboardRobot That's only fair, you don't want to ride something you won't enjoy. I just know that many "reviewers" seem to only hype products up and ignore any negagives to avoid pissing people off.

    Thanks! Almost all of my recent videos are filmed at Big White in BC Canada, it's a pretty crazy looking place, especially up the top on around the snow ghosts - you can see in the Nitro Fusion video and maybe a bit in the Jones Mountain Twin one too.

    Hey! Nice video. I'm about to pull the trigger on a new jones hovercraft. do you have any suggestions on bindings? Also curious - im about 200 cm and 235 lbs (tall dude), should I get the 164? I would call myself an advanced rider. My normal freestyle board is a 167W for what its worth

  • @SnowboardRobot

    @SnowboardRobot

    Thanks - yeah go for the 164. I'd go for pretty stiff bindings as you'd be able to push them around without a problem anyway. Probably something like the Union Atlas bit.ly/3EttDTD or Burton Cartel X bit.ly/3i4b4hl

    Not yet! That was on my list but I wasn't able to get it! The selfie stuff is done with the Insta360 and invisible selfie stick, and the normal looking stuff is done with the Osmo Pocket kzread.info/dash/bejne/pn2hj9mNepu-ips.html

    Hi, great review. I'm looking for a new board.. I'm Looking for it to be stable at speed, pretty forgiving and doesn't catch an edge easily. Mainly to be used on piste, but has the option for some light off piste stuff. Park and jumps are not a priority. I'm considering the following, and was wondering if you could offer your option if any are suitable!/or that you would avoid. Jones frontier Jones hovercraft Capita Snowboard of Death Burton flight attendant Cheers

    Adding to the other comment with the Stratos, I would also add the Nitro Fusion kzread.info/dash/bejne/kYt9udCDfpjLqMo.html as an option, though I haven't ridden the Flight Attendant or Black Snowboard of Death so I can't nicely compare those two yet.

    Your weight and height isn't far from mine, if you are getting it to mostly ride in powder I would still go for the 156 as a first choice - even though they recommend sizing down quite a bit.

    I did ride it switch a bit on groomed runs - it didn't feel bad at all, but it was quite a different feel from normal. Maybe the Flagship would be worth looking at if you wanted to ride a bunch of switch?

    Like any directional shape, you can easily get a few turns in once you're used to it. Totally good enough to ride out a 180 or 540, but they're really not ideal for hitting features or whole runs switch. (on the other hand, I've seen guys do switch park laps on rockered out swallow tails, you can really do anything you want on a snowboard if you're good enough.)

    Yeah that will be plenty of board, I am not sure if they still mention it but they used to say to size down about 4cm or so, seeing that it is pretty much a big stiff rectangle. See how it does in deep snow, it's pretty good.

    I just randomly picked up a 2017 ultracraft 2nd for very cheap. I dont think its gonna be suitable for the icy alpine groomers? But I got anyway just coz it was 200nzd maybe for that ONE pow day we get a year.

  • @SnowboardRobot

    @SnowboardRobot

    3 жыл бұрын

    It will depend a bit on your riding style, but I was surprised on how well the regular Hovercraft did on groomers, so the Ultracraft will probably be a bit better. The stiff flex and plenty of camber should make it feel pretty solid, even with the big shaped nose.
