As a Leeds fan, same for us with Ferdinand and Woodgate. Impenetrable. All 3 were better than Terry.

This lad only played 28 league games for my team Newcastle and he is seen by me, and many other of our supporters as the best centre back we've had in the Premier League era. World class

I Reckon I've watched nearly all of these 0ne2eleven's. Say what you like about his nightmare debut for Madrid and his injury record, but Woodgate's team is by far the most entertaining to listen to.

ANYONE who's played with Ledley King has him in there. He really was everything they say he was. Remember when he marked Peak Henry out of the game in Euro 2004. The pros know that Ledley was the don.

One of the best center backs I’ve seen in the premier league, Henry said King was the best defender he ever played against, and I believe it. It’s a real shame that his knees were as bad as they were, even though he played for a rival, I still have a ton of respect for him.

What a nice bloke he turned into.

I'm Real fan. I've been following the team for many years and Woodgate is one of the players I've more interest in. Like player and about his personality. damn injuries. I'm proud of having had him in the team

Real classy defender, woodgate had everything! but real bad luck with injuries means no one puts him in the same class as terry, rio and ledley king but he was!!

It really is something the way players talk about Ledley King, the awe they have that he was even able to play in the later years of his career. One of the best players of his era in any position in terms of talent.

This was brilliant. Loved hearing the stories about the Madrid players, he's a funny fella too. I forgot what a good player he was and all the greats he's played with. Raul on the bench lmao that's when you know you've had a good career.

Woodgate is a great centre back, I was gutted when he left Newcastle to join Real Madrid but no player can turn down a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Alberto Cruz Cristiano is just a goal hanging poacher, plus don't forget that Ronaldo missed 2 years of football due to injuries that could end his career, so he didn't hit his full potential.

He just won yet another CL final today and popped into two goals in the process! Never had the class of players around him at Madrid like Messi has had at Barca and as much as I love Messi I have to say I don't think Madrid would have won as much these past few years had they had Messi instead of CR7!

Jake McGrath 100% agree, mentally maybe he wasn’t as tough as Rio but as a player he was the more gifted of the two. Both in Lucas’ shadow though.

I recall this young lad arriving at LUFC Academy in 1996 and being interviewed by his new coach (Ces Podd ex Bradford City AFC) who asked him if he wanted to play for Leeds United AFC or Middlesbrough FC and he said "I want to play for England" That lad was Jonathan Woodgate aged 16

he knows his stuff Woodgate! Modric is an awesome player, and he can tackle too, he's a beast! What a great all round midfielder! And i love to see him mention Guti, massive talent! underrated criminally! unplayable when he's on his game.

Played with some unbelievable players in his time!

Wood gate seems so nice and I really respect how he enjoyed his time at Madrid . He's very. Humbling and he shows no bitterness . Madrid fans and that club kinda chewed him up and spit him out . They have done so with many great players and some world class players

He's right about Ledley King. One of the biggest waste's in English football. At least Gazza had to the chance to play consistently for a number of years and played in both the word cup and the European championships. King could have been one of England's all time greatest defenders.

+HullMarkCA The funny thing is, so could Woodgate himself. He was an incredible talent who also had a lot of injuries. Real Madrid don't sign you for a laugh, they knew what they were looking at. Sadly it never took off for him and he's had a lot of injuries. Brilliant player at his best though.

Lenny Henry True! I remember him coming through at Leeds and he looked class. Was not surprised when Real snapped him up. It was a real shame that his career was also affected so much through injury.

i'd say Terry was better, but not by much. Terry and a fit Ledley would have been an incredible partnership. Great as Rio was I think Ledley was a better defender overall.

in fact remember England V France in Euro 2004 - Ledley marked peak Thierry Henry out of the game, one of his best ever performances.

Ledley King was brilliant. Would have been an England regular if he hadn't been injury prone

Really, really enjoyed that. Woodgate is a likeable guy!

One of the best defenders I've ever seen play live, so calm on the ball and could read the game brilliantly. He had an awful debut for Real Madrid mind but I really do think that if he stayed injury free he would have been one of the best centre backs England had produced in past 25 years

Nathan Sheppard Ledley and Woodgate would have easily been one of the best English CB pairings of all time if they hadn't had the injury problems. Woodgate was fantastic, definitely good enough for Real. If you've seen him or Ledley play extensively, which Spurs fans have, you'll understand. Unbelievably good both of them, criminally underrated.

Andres Gonzales He could have been one of the best defenders in the world but sadly injury ruined him. He still had a pretty good career, but it could have be an amazing one.
