In order to get the "palestinian" mandate they had to make three promises to the US and France; 1. They would not divide the land. 2. They would allow any of the native people, the Jews, to return to their homeland. 3. They would keep out Arab invaders. They broke all three promises.

@@dickschlau3592 "...some european settlers with Ukranian[sic], polish and german names..." Prior to 1880 almost all the Jews of "southern Syria" were middle-eastern and Sefardi. In some cities, the largest ethnic community was middle-eastern Jewish (for example Jerusalem). Even when Ukrainian pogroms started pushing out Jews, most went west, with only a trickle finding their way to "southern Syria" between 1880 and 1920. They pushed no one out, but neither did they behave like subservient Dhimmis. Jewish economic activity did weaken the hold the Arab Elites had over their masses. Privileged during Ottoman times, the elites expected to to continue their domination and exploitation after the fall of the Ottoman empire in the wake of WW-1. They initiated a campaign of anti-Jewish agitation and violence to bolster their influence. The most influential of these Arab elite leaders was Amin al-Husseini, whose first provoked riot and massacre of Jews was in 1920. Purely by coincidence, the 1920s saw western countries start to restrict the immigration of Jewish refugees, who then started to divert to Palestine, where they were settled on land PURCHASED for that purpose. Arab indiscriminate violence against Jews caused the Jews to organise their own self-defence. Islamic supremacism and Arab violence is the root cause of their tragedy. In the period 1947-8 (i.e. even before Israel was declared) Arabs tried to drive Jews from their homes, by massacre and siege. The Jews defended themselves. In 1948, the neighbouring Arab states invaded, thinking to drive out the Jews and annex land. They failed. In the fighting, many Arabs fled. The most successful of the Arab Armies was Trans-Jordan, which annexed Judah, Samaria and East Jerusalem and DROVE OUT THE JEWS. In the aftermath of the 1947-9 war, about 800,000 Jews were driven out of Arab countries, and most ended up in Israel. Most of the Jews of Israel are middle-eastern and the decedents of refugees. Maybe if the Islamic supremacists had not dominated, the history and fate of the Palestine mandate might have been different, with peaceful coexistence and no one displaced. There might not even be a state of Israel, because its necessity for self-defence would not have been so compelling.

Moses died in what is now the East Bank of (the) Jordan. This NW corner of modern Jordan came under Hebrew rule during the periods of their independence. The area fell under Arab rule in the Battle of the Yarmuk in the 7th century. Did Jordan ever complete the west Ghor canal before the 1967 war? Beside that there were the Romans, Persians, and others who came and left and some of them resides in that geography called Palestine according to the biblical books. And Al Aqsa area according to the Quraan. Anyway, you can’t give any faith any right for the holy land because the faith followers may shift from one faith to the other like many of the Christian’s and the Jews to Islam mainly. So what do you tell those who changed and accepted other faiths like Islam? You disagree to them that they lost their right to their lands and homes???😅😢

Very Informative! - Regarding the "patrolling" of the Jordan / Israel border. As you are well aware One can stand on any of the hilltops overlooking not only the Jordan River but the entire Jordanian side covering a vast area of the African Riff. The "old school" method of IDF soldiers and its Beduin trackers "patrolling" AND raking along the electric fence is simply not efficient. If you spend a morning anywhere along that road from the top of the Dead Sea up to Biet Shean and Mechola, you will see the NEW METHOD of the EVER WATCHING IDF, and it is electronic. Article 25 of the Mandate for Palestine authorised the disapplication of the Mandate in relation to the territories to the east of the Jordan River. It wouldn't be a good idea for Israel to annex Jordan. All non-Jewish inhabitants of the territory to the west of the river annexed by Jordan are in law Jordanian citizens, foreigners with no claim whatsoever to any part of the State of Israel (including Judaea and Samaria). If Israel were to annex Jordan, all these people would have become Israeli citizens.

I don't get it. Obviously, San Remo included Jordan as part of a future homeland for the Jewish people, but why does that matter? We can use San Remo to annex Judaea & Samaria and Gaza. Why not leave Jordan alone? Even though Jews lived there at some point in time, that land is still outside of the "Land of Israel" boundaries prescribed in the Torah. It was not promised to us by God, at least if we're referring to the Exodus promise, not the Genesis promise which goes way beyond the Land of Israel. We should focus on the Land of Israel, not territories outside of it. Jordan is not our indigenous land! Israel is. Jordan is not The Promised Land! Israel is, along with Lebanon. Annexing Jordan doesn't serve any religious or historical purpose for our people beyond "we lived here for a little while, a long, long time ago". Furthermore, if you want a hard-right approach to ending the conflict through some form of population transfer, then why wouldn't you support Jordan being their destination? If not Jordan... where? I completely understand your concerns about the sustainability of Jordan's monarchy but where would all those people go? They're already the majority there and that's where we can do population transfer. Otherwise, what's your proposal for all those people?

Nomadic tribes are not nations. Nations can only arise from settled populations who produce surpluses and are able to to exchange goods with other settled populations. Banditry and pillage only produce anarchy, destruction and enslavement. Jordan didn't want the landless peasants left over from the Ottoman days, most of whom were shipped into the eastern Med coastline from surrounding regions only when the Ottomans wanted them to work the land so they(the Ottomans) could extract some profits. The actual landholders were Turks living in places like Istanbul, Cairo and Ankyra.

There were settlements and a thriving civilization in Palestine. People had keys to homes; they weren’t living in tents. Even if they had been, it’s still their land.

@@Danielle-zq7kb it's wasn't their land It's been conquered and over run by foreign powers since the time of the Greeks Infact before them there was the Persians the Babylonians, the Assyrians Only twice in history has that stretch of country ever been independent of foreign control The Davidic/Solomonic period and the modern Israel A few decades ago the PLO and others could have negotiated a peaceful settlement, and refused to consider it. 5 times. The houses and keys you mention were built by the Ottomans to keep their workers in place. No work- no house. There were no schools, no medical care either.

@@Danielle-zq7kb I'll say it again. It was never their land. That stretch of country was over - run by foreigners for centuries Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians,Persians, Greeks,Romans. Arabs, Ottomans Only twice has it been independent of foreign control. The Davidic/Solomonic period and modern Israel. The PLO and others had their opportunity and blew it. 5 times. I think by gas Jonathan Pollard doesn’t mean gas. He means gasoline and diesel in other words refined oil bearing in mind that oil is not a gas, but both oil and gas are two types of petroleum
