Jonathan Harris Dr Smith Lost in Space Interview
I was lucky enough to find this video in my files. It is a rare and wonderful interview with the great Jonathan Harris who played Dr. Smith on the original "Lost in Space" t.v. series.

I bought this video when it was originally released. When I saw Jonathan stating that he answers every one of his letters. I decided to put his word to the test. He did not disappoint. I still have his handwritten response to me to this day. I will treasure it always.
Jonathan Harris was definitely one of the greats. A great actor, comedian, and storyteller. No wonder they used him A lot in movies and on television. Mr. Harris, wherever you are, you have done a very fine job in this craft. You are still a credit to the profession, sir.
What wonderful actor and human being. He did care of his fans.
He made the show great
Shame this video has such low views. You just gotta love Dr. Smith.
I just like to hear his voice again.
If he was still alive I would write him a fan letter thanking him for his wonderful performances!
Oh the Pain,Where my viewer as the good doctor would say himself!
The first time to hear his true accent!

His real voice is a jewish/Brooklyn accent. He spoke about it once and actually showed how he spoke. This voice is a complete act.

Newsflash: Jonathan Harris had a real bad back…
MAJ. West was not a scientist, he was a pilot and a military man.

But keep in mind that during the 1960's, (Cold War, Civil Rights battles, Vietnam war) audiences were actually looking for more comic relief. Irwin Allen re-tuned, both, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Lost in Space with more light-hearted scenes to appeal to younger adults and kids. As annoying as Dr. Smith was to some of us, Lost in Space's ratings went up because of Harris's character. I couldn't stand him when I was a kid, but now appreciate him.
