personally the melodramatic animation and silly vocal performance coupled with the genuine heartbreak of the melody and chords really hit me hard. People so often treat their heavy feelings as a joke to cope and fit in. For me the "oh" at 0:42 is almost a 4th wall-breaking look of surprise that real emotions slipped out in this silly animation.

@@Poly_0000 It is when you let it consume your life and worry about it all day every day for a full week. Specially when you're 18, healthy, got accepted into the college you wanted and have literally no reason to fear death, at all.

This is so much sadder when you remember that in one of Garfield’s nine lives, he had to be separated from his owner for a while because she found a love interest, so they couldn’t see each other for a really long time. Poor garf is probably reliving that experience

This has gotta be my new favorite video ever. As a Garfield enthusiast this just makes me so immensely overjoyed. The animation presented is at another level, as well as the way the characters are portrayed, both with their actions and how they’re shown. Jon needing Liz to help him with his bow tie just screams Jon Arbuckle. Garfield looks so adorable, as well as big and lazy, and as he should be. The fluent movement is pleasant on the eyes, and the backgrounds are amazing. My favorite detail is the portraits of Garfield and Odie on the walls. It’s nice to see Odie even for a little bit as he is absent for the duration of this masterpiece. It feels like this exquisite song was created specifically for a Garfield animation. According to the video essay “What the internet did to Garfield” out of hundreds of Garfield comics, (not every single one but still a lot) Garfield did not attempt to console Jon about his miserable existence, nor try to make him feel better even once. Even with this information being apparent, I always thought that Garfield deeply cared about Jon, and not just because Jon buys him food and whatnot. In this obscure Garfield book where Jon and his pets go camping, a panther attacks them, and Garfield risks his own life to save Jon and Odie. Garfield also fears being alone, evident from a nightmare that he had that spanned a few days worth of comics. His worst fear is being away from his family. I apologize for that tangent, but I just find the entire premise of this animation to be cute, considering it is widely believed that Garfield simply views Jon as the pathetic imbecile that supplies him with lasagna. I simply want to thank you for creating this. You have no idea how much this has improved my life. You are truly a hero.

Maybe it's also because he feels territorial over it, Jon's girlfriend, just going in his house and stealing his time with his owner? In his perspective, I'd also feel bummed out over it. There was a week long story arc in the comic strip where garfield suddenly gets transported to an old abandoned version of the house. No one but him is there, and he gradually grows neurotic and delusional, seeing illusions of Jon and Odie. He finally admits that he's afraid to be alone, and everything suddenly returns to normal. It may have been his imagination, may have not, but it shows Garfield has a fear of loneliness and can't handle being by himself and forgotten.

I had an orange cat. Many people said that our dynamic reminded them of Jon and Garfield. I loved him more than the waking world. I had him as my iPhone wallpaper, he took up my memory on my phone as well with how many photos I had of him; I never used to take photos before I adopted him. This made me think about how he likely felt when seeing me leave the apartment. It made me so happy to see how excited he was to just see me come home, or wake up in the morning. I don’t think that’s something we in every day life get to experience with other people, them being ecstatic about us merely existing. It means the world to us when we see someone or something express how we mean the world to them. That’s beautiful. Maybe we should all be more like our pets and just show people how much they brighten up our worlds, by just simply being in it.

I lost my dogs a little while ago and it hurts... a lot. I don't think I'll ever stop missing them and just the thought that I'll never see their stupid drooly faces again makes my throat hurt. And I will never forget the looks on their faces when I would come home from school or college. One of them, Brutus, would lay on the window sill every day just before I got home and watch out front of the house for me to arrive - this was quite impressive considering he was a fat bastard of a bulldog haha. I regret a lot from when they were still here and I wish I could have done better for them, but reading this helped me remember that me just coming home and playing with them every day was enough for them and they loved me despite everything. Thank you stranger, I really needed that today.

i’m not even sure why i’m so sad but god this is gut wrenching for some reason. the use of garfield specifically almost makes it feel like a metaphor for loss of childhood innocence to uncaring adults, or more specifically, the feeling of abandonment or betrayal by a trusted adult. it evokes that feeling to me of being a child and dealing with emotions you can’t put to words or just don’t understand, and feeling so deeply angry and betrayed by those with power over you and/or those you love. being forced at a young age to consider wether the people you hold dearest to you, particularly parents, actually have your best interests at heart, feeling like you might start having to protect yourself from the people you thought were there to protect you, and the utter overwhelming loneliness and feeling of powerlessness that comes with that. begging to understand, but not being able to. the attempts to self-comfort and eventual apathy towards those you used to love so much. searching for an escape. crying out for help. feeling like your entire world is being torn apart and the only thing you can do is stand there, in the doorway, in the dim light, and watch it all happen. the adults are talking, and they’re talking about you, and you’re not allowed to say a word. all you can do is press your ear to the door, and listen. or maybe it’s funni animation about funni lagsangagsa cat singing funni song heehoo

For Garfield, his day to day schedule never changes. He has no responsibilities whatsoever. So there’s no feasible reason he would hate Mondays for his own sake. Monday starts just after the weekend, which means after two days of Jon being around constantly he’s suddenly gone off for work presumably. Garfield doesn’t hate Mondays because he just doesn’t like Monday. He hates Mondays because he loves Jon and just doesn’t want to admit it

I also really like that this is normal Garfield AND something a cat would actually do. He wants to spend time with Jon but gets sad(and dramatic) when he leaves him alone! If you ever make a full version of this, I hope it ends with Jon coming home and petting Garfield.

Damn, you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn even if you tried. The point of the song's lyrics were right there, man. They were right. Fucking. There. And you missed the point entirely.

I was very close to have a panic attack when I found this animation. The beautiful song mixed with the expressive animation made me feel heard for a moment. Right now I'm in a point in my life where "the ground is skinking under me". But finding this video (and then listening the full song) gave me a chance to breathe and get more calm. Thank you so much for making it. It saved me from a very bad moment.

I watched this animation countless times and I saw it for the first time last week I love this a new favorite thank you

I love how Garfield is being such a melodramatic sassy feline right now. So in his feelings. This is kinda in line with some of his behavior when he’s not pretending he doesn’t give a shit. On top of that he doesn’t turn into this primordial being. It’s just very comforting, realistic, VHS filter and actually some good multimedia seeming animation.

You gotta love how Garf's design blends into the darkness growing around him~ And at 0:29 this cascade of magenta and teal really blends in with the rest of the video 😮 Bless this VHS Garfield and math rock guitar 🙏

Hey! So I absolutely love this piece! Its so awesome and has such fluid animation and feeling to it so I actually showed it to some friends and my illustration professor. My illustration professor is actually someone who worked on the original Garfield Comic Strip and currently still works with Garfield. He is still actually in contact with Jim Davis, the creator of Garfield, and actually sent him the video with a couple other people who worked on the strip with him. I wanted you to know that Jim Davis has now seen your work and loved it and so did others who worked on the original Garfield strip! I hope this can continue to inspire you to make more and keep up the hard work! ❤

i gotta admit that i love gorefield and all that shit about him being a lovercraftian being or god (and almost every thing lumpytouch has made with garfield), this animation of him being just a normal cat is wholesome, and even a lil sad.

I interpreted this as Garfield having separation anxiety. Pets can recognize our routines when we get ready to leave the house, and start to act anxious, or cry out. Poor kitty Garfield 😔
