As the Gin Blossoms experienced mounting success performing songs he had written, Hopkins became increasingly despondent.[2] Although he had always dreamed of having a gold record, when he received one (for the song "Hey Jealousy"), he hung it up for two weeks before taking it down and then destroying it. Nine days later, during an intake consultation in the detox unit of Phoenix's St. Luke's Hospital, Hopkins snuck out and bought a .38 caliber pistol. The next day, December 5, 1993, Hopkins committed suicide

f*ckin jolly right, kid!! As an official old fart who listened to Zep in my 73 duster, i love that 90's grunge-nirvana stuff...after the evil decade(1980's) this stuff was a welcome breath of musical air...even saw pearl jam at r.k.o. loved the 90's, was a great decade for me!!! The Blossoms are hard- core.

@@revjim77 That was late 90's garbage - the early-to-mid 90's had awesome music.
Slammin' drummer. Always loved this song.
This is so my time...the Gin Blossoms...the Connells...10,000 Maniacs...REM...the BoDeans...Toad the Wet Sprocket...Sister Hazel...and if you are from the Norfolk, VA area the Waxing Poetics...that is late 80's early 90's music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love all of you guys!!!!!!!!!!
Forever a classic. Will always be an amazing song.
to me, this is the epitome of 90's music...love it
"And if you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down." Slammin' drummer. Always loved this song. This is so nineties it hurts
The Gin Blossoms are a national treasure.
Fun fact: human civilization peaked during the 1990s. This is a great live version! These guys are so solid live. A rare trait!

@shadowyshutterbug Definitely opinion. It actually peaked in the 1970s. The 90s were the tail end... (my opinion. )
by far the best live performance of "hey jealousy". Terrific !
Wow! Dudes playing real instruments! I told you kids this used to be a thing !
When I think of alternative music in the 90s, Gina Blossoms and Toad the Wet Sprocket are my first thoughts.

Seeing them live back in the day was unbelievable... lived in Tempe watch them come from nothing and get to the success they did, saw them so many times honestly can't recall how many they always played so much louder, harder and faster live than any other albums sounded like... the Tempe scene was magical these guys and all the other bands at the time would mixitup change around members just goofing off night after night playing live in the tempe bar scene
This is a great live version! These guys are so solid live. A rare trait!
I'm sooooo freaking missing the 90's
Listen to that clean live performance, you just don't see skilled live singers like that anymore.

I saw them for the first time on tv last year in one of nba play off halftime shows. Since then his voice just gets me. I didn’t even knew them before but I love them ❤
What a great live performance!! Everyone is doing their part to contribute to the great sound!!
Love these guitar players and the singer they rock!
One of the cleanest voices in alternative rock n roll scene
you can see I'm in no shape for driving, and anyway I've got no place to go the past is gone but something might be found to take its place if you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down how many great lines can fit in one song?
I saw them in 1992 with Toad the Wet Sprocket! Such a fun show.
Well well, look at that Peace Corps shirt! Ahh, the times I laid in bed listening to this song during my two years in PC...

My favorites in high school. Fortunate to see them in 2006 in a small club in Chattanooga. Robin signed my Hey Jealousy tattoo. What a show.
This song reminds me of my girlfriend in high school. What better days. So simple
Lead singer looks like a medieval page boy who wandered through a 90's closet.

Im so happy that i grew up listening to this kind of music. Was born on 1987.
Always thought Scott Johnson was SOOOO adorable back then as well as a fantastic guitar player. He's still a fantastic guitar player.
I still LOVE this band!
Just saw them in concert a weekend ago. Still super after all these years.

Saw them live in Fort Lauderdale last week. Sound even better than the record!
i saw this live on tv when it happened, i played that CD in my CRX all the time, mixed emotions...so much nostalgia, times where so great!
Great song brings back great memories of college, parties, beer, girls, and living for the weekend. What a freaking great time for music. Feel sorry for the kids today, the rock scene is nothing like it was then. 1991 to about 1996 or so was an AMAZING time for music! But I guess like the original Jon Stewart Show all good things must end.:(
The last great decade the 90s
I’ll forever love this song.. Gosh I miss the 90s

I saw them last night, still a great live show.. And they haven't aged a bit.
RIP Doug......he looks so happy here...hearing his lyrics.
