Jon Anderson Interview May 2005

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a very personal and charming interview with Jon Anderson, of the famous progressive rock band YES. Taped in Jon's backyard, on the same hammock as the interview for the documentary YesSpeak, Jon is very relaxed and in perfect form. The interview was taped, and post produced by life-long fan Scott Goodkin. Interviewer Steve Wagner, also a life-long fan. Together, they captured the true essence of Jon Anderson. It will touch and enlighten you. The interview was created for the San Francisco TV show called Sound Waves. The program was nominated for the 2005 (Western Alliance for Video Excellence) W.A.V.E. awards for the best TV documentary of 2005.

One of the best interviews i’ve ever seen. Great interviewer. Any interview you see of vintage Yes will feature the worst questions from the least informed or interested interviewer, which results in the blandest outcome. Yes has changed my life. Jon is a brilliant man from every angle. You don’t hear about these guys trashing hotel rooms and hooking up with underage girls from their “tour days.” All just class acts.

Hi guys, I was also blessed. At 15 I saw by coincidence YES opening for Jethro Tull unexpectedly when they played my, VA/ DC Roller Rink. The experience changed my world. After every concert throughout 70s to the classic line again in the mid 90s to 2004 I was a major fan. Then I met Jon through my work as an Visual effect artist at his hiome near me in 2008 before he succumb to illness and left YES. Another epiphany! and life changing moment.

Love listening to Jon speak, he is so open and unafraid of showing innocence and purity, the irony is that this takes a special kind of ballsiness!! LOL!!

It's good to hear Jon speak as an English man, when he mentioned The Goons, and Monty Python, He seems to be more American than ever English these days.

Yeah, Jon was really relaxed and happy that day. He still has a lot of north UK accent though. When I speak to him on the phone he also still sounds English.

I often wonderd how much of what Jon sang about was song lyrics and/or true beliefs, now I know.

boy was he wrong about the future of music. Its all garbage, a monstrosity even. Music as it exists is sin, pure and simple.

Keep in mind, we did this interview it was 2005. A lot has happened since then... You also have to understand Jon. He is a very positive minded and creative guy. This interview was for his appearance at the Harmony Festival that summer. Regardless, it was awesome to do this interview with Jon. Certainly a memorable occasion.

As an added comment, I actually think that there will be a re-discovery of music from the 60s, 70's and a little bit of the 80's as people seek out meaningful musical experiences. As the owner of a music store in rural NSW, Australia, I see some youth actually interested in progressive rock and blues.

@@scottagoodkin Yes, I do think there will always be a minority of people who are seeking great music. I keep all my vinyl, Lamb lies, Relayer, etc well protected in hopes that perhaps my great greats... will discover them. But the business is over in my opinion. I seriously doubt that Yes could land a contract today, if there even such a thing.

You are wrong. Corporate radio has always sucked, virtually no Jon song ever gets on radio. The same is true today. I'm a member of a facebook 'kitchen party' group of just LOCAL musicians and the music is unbelieveable and every bit as good as anyting on radio. One night I saw this group of about six drummers playing steel drums like a reggae band, it was unbelievable and this was from a bunch of 60 plus year olds in a canadian fishing village. So no, todays music is FAR from garbage, it is more accessible than ever, but harder to find because radio is SO corporate controlled that almost nothing different is even on it. In my area on terrestrial radio its just 'new country' which is shit, and classic 80s stuff that is repeated ad nauseum. But now with the internet we are no longer tied to that, there is SO much good music but its just harder to find all of it.
