And it was no coincidence that Jon rode Rhaegal, named after his true father.

He didn't turn around to fight some white walkers, he was very angry at Dany's loss , he turned to kill Night King to take revenge for Drogon and seeing he couldn't do so,he returned back and we saw that he also tried to do the same again in final battle with Night King when Dany couldn't kill him with Drogon's Fire

It was still really dumb though. Instead of killing the dragon on the ground in front of him, the biggest one with all the main characters, he kills the smaller one that’s flying. He’s definitely not smart, that’s for sure.

@@mikaelmyers6135 Knight king was right to kill the other dragon first. He just got cocky with it. Nobody knew he had such powerful weapons so he decided to take out one harder target first. After successfully killing the first dragon then surely a man with his aim would never miss a giant dragon standing righting in front of him. Still he did, twice even.

I disagree, season 8 had INCREDIBLE scenes as well in terms of basically everything BUT the writing. Although the writing was not AS bad as ppl say.

Had totally forgotten that Jon's stupidity was what got Viserion killed. Visually stunning scene, with gorgeous music. But stupendously badly written.

If you don’t see how they posed a threat, it’s not Dan and Dave that had the issue, it’s you. Y’all kill me acting like they were incompetent. They produced a show that won MULTIPLE Emmys, it had a record number of viewers, the ppl who enjoyed season 8 ( myself included) STILL outnumber the folks who didn’t and it’s still a record number of viewers. Their show catapulted some obscure books into a cultural phenomenon, and you tube Content creators are STILL eating off their work four years later. They were incredibly successful. They created a jumping off point for a entire franchise. HOTD would not have been as successful as it was if it wasn’t for GOT. Y’all can squeal all y’all want but the Emmys speak for themselves and I learned at age six ( sleeping beauty) that film ALMOST ALWAYS adapts to a different audience. The books are wonderful but most of that wouldn’t work on screen. GRRM gave them the major beats and those of u who think Dany won’t die, she won’t turn into fire and blood, Bran won’t become King, Jon won’t parallel Frodo and go beyond the wall are lying to yourselves and don’t understand what it is you are reading anyway. There is a lot of foreshadowing already for these plot points 💁🏾‍♀️

Film and TV critics, youtubers, and audiences in general consistently rank it as one of the worst finales of any show in history. Ever! I mean, the petition alone, unrealistic as it was, speaks for itself, doesn't it? David and Dan had several juicy job offers going for them, and then suddenly they didn't. Does that sound like a successful ending to a successful show to you? And the books were by no means "obscure" before the show came along. They had a sizeable fanbase before it aired, and I say this as someone who only read them after watching the first few seasons of the show. And by the way, George has already said that his ending will differ significantly from that of the show, so... 🤷🏻‍♂️ Acknowledging the cultural impact the show has had does not mean being delusional enough not to accept that the ending was botched. You may have liked it, but audiences by and large did not. I mean, George himself distanced himself from production halfway through the show's run, ostensibly to work on the books yet he always seems to find time to work on other projects. It's plain and obvious that at some point he was having major creative differences with David and Dan. And the results are there, for all to see.

We all know daenerys and drogon have the closest bond, but they were all her children. The look on her face when viseryon fell showed she loved them. How jorah looked at her, knowing that she lost her child. While the others only saw a great dragon die in one hit. The way she held back tears telling jon on the ship the dragons are her children. Her anguish and rage when rhaegal died, expressing her pain when asking varys if he saw her child fall from the sky. While they didn't give the two dragons as much show time as drogon, i think they did capture her love for them well

The Night King was like gimme one more spear you see that shot I'm feeling good bro 💀

The way Rhaegal followed Viserion and tried to catch him with his legs in the distance 😭😭😭

The way Jorah looks at Daenerys right after her dragon dies. He’s been with her and the dragons since they were born and he knew how much pain she was in witnessing that. Gets me everytime.

If there is one thing i realized over the coirde of series, Dragons who have riders are much more difficult to kill than those without riders. Its just like in the case of war horses and military dogs. They thrive under good command. That's why being a master dragon rider who is well bonded with your dragon counts as a major skill and achievement in HOTD. Drogon escaped the night king's Javelin bcos of the sharp maneuvering control of Dany. Moreover, Rhaegal wouldn't have died at least so easily if he had a rider at the time he was shot down. He was confused and taken totally unawares just as Viserion was. They were more like a flock of sheep following their leader's actions but not the direct instructions since they weren't mounted. Drogon's cry of pain though😢. It got to my soul💔😥😭

They only saw the nigh king late so even if they had a rider the only way dragon wouldn't die is if they noticed the night king which I highly doubt. In thousands of dead people i doubt they would pay attention to the leader. Because it would be their first time watching a dead army. Maybe if Jon was ridding it he would notice the night king but even he was oblivious to the night king until later after the dragon died

AFAIAC it ended in season 6 with dany leaving Essos.

Wasnt rhaegal injured from the fight and not 100? Drogon is more experienced and was more alert with any riding that said, i think they just wanted to get it over with...things could have been better but its not something i stress about the way many people do...the more i sit with the season the more it become alright...lolz.

It also took away the impact of it when you realized an episode later they couldn't hit Drogon at all, who was closer and a much bigger target. It was just stupid.

Yeah, you nailed it. The whole "armour is useless" trope comes into play with the dragon's. If the Night king's special skill wasn't that he could line up a shot against a titanic, slow flying beast and impale it with one hit, but could line up the nigh-impossibly-hard shot against its weak spot... yes, that would make for good - even great - television. And make his ice javelins less fearsome once they got going, while not eliminating his fearsome threat in any way. It would also have shown why a two-dragon run at him to just kill him with dragonfire would have just been suicide. Needing to flee and evade was the only course. But it was still badly-written. Basically, any time a dragon got hit with a big enough pointy thing, it was dead. And that's really lame.

The moment Danaerys realizes her and herndragons aren't invincible...

What always made m both sad and crack up at the same time was Rhaegal trying to catch Viserion and then noping the hell out when he realized he was vulnerable.

Now, that I saw Jacaerys and Cregan discussion about how ancient dragons couldn't go beyond the wall out of fear, my respect for Daenerys's dragons goes up the roof. This level of devotion is perhaps what makes Daenerys so special in the history of the Targaryen family.

That first scene. Jon looking at the horde coming at them from other side below. Then looking at each of the others like “we’re fkng dead, all of us”. Then preparing to take one last stand against all of those undead alone.

The dragons can’t even cross the wall as said in House of the Dragon. D&D got fired for good reason as Viserion is still alive in the books.

And best Javelin Throw award goes to Night king.

If Jon had gotten on Drogon maybe Viserion would be alive. I also think the Night King saw it in a vision just like Bran when he was grabbed by him.

Please understand that at this point the NK was staring down a new opponent that wields 3 weapons against which he has no chance. He needs to even the field somehow so at least one dragon must "switch" sides. It might have been tempting to kill Drogon, or Daenerys outright with a well-placed spear or arrow.... but trying to hit Drogon in the neck from above is very difficult, since it moves its head around to breathe flames on the zombies and the like. If the NK misses or causes only a minor injury then Daenerys will order them to fly away and the NK loses. On the other hand, Viseryon is making passes to breathe flame on zombies. The flying pattern of such a large animal can be easily predicted, especially when it is not feeling threatened. The chest and the neck are softer from below.... so easy.

@@jimbrewer5048 On an evolutionary time scale (i.e., before humans came up with missile weapons), the only threat to an airborne dragon would be another dragon. And it's much easier for a dragon to attack a target below it than above. So it would make perfect sense to armor the back and neck rather than the chest and belly.

Something to be said that Drogon was a beast when it came to avoidance. He was so far superior to his brothers. He has balions genes if not him reincarnated as some believe. The knight king was accurate, Drogon was more evasive. He avoided 2 rounds of multiple scorpion attacks as well. Both his brothers were killed by spears.

Why didn’t Jon just get on the dragon? Haha… had to have one last peak at the Night King for funsies. Also, nice of the walkers to pause attacking for a second to mourn the dragon’s death lol.

Such a terribly written scene. It's so obvious that the show producers just gave up. The time skip of Gendry running back to the wall, sending a raven, and Dany getting there. The way John went after more Whitewalkers for no good reason. The choice of target too! C'mon, think strategically too. I know that in our POV it took Dany only a second to land but in reality that was probably close to a minute. In that time any rational general would analyze the new threat and determine the best target to attack. While the smaller Dragons are the "easier" targets, Drogon carries the new person. Kill Drogon, and the new person who just arrived (probably the Dragon's Master) will be vulnerable to attack. Plus, a resurrected Drogon would be more useful than any of the other two. Hence, before Dany could land he should have thrown a spear at Drogon's chest if he was smart. And then the long 10 second pause after the dragon dies is dumb too. Why would the enemy pause their attack for 10 seconds? I think not. It would make more sense if the 10 seconds was in slow motion, to emphasize the gravity of the situation. While showing that the enemies advance and attack is continous, but that's not what happens. 🤦🏽‍♂️ Ugh, they ruined the show because they were burnt out. Honestly, they shouldn't have done the last few seasons. They should have given the show to others who are passionate about the show and the characters instead of them butchering things.

If Dany didn't have gone to rescue Jon then Dragon wouldn't be killed and Night king wouldn't destroyed the wall and crossed. At least for once Tyrion was absolutely correct, wished she listen to him. But sadly she was already fallen in love with Jon Snow and listen to her heart rather than mind.😢

Why are those dragons so easy to kill with spears. Their skin should be tougher than that. I really can't get over those two dragons. The only characters I loved, Danny's 🐉.

Honestly, Danaerys doesn't look too devastated. I mean, if one of my kids died (especially if they got impaled by a spear), I would go absolutely crazy with grief and shock. She turns around and looks like she's thinking, "Damn it! Oh well, too bad."

One more detail of completely shit writing. So we all know the NK reanimated Viserion, question is, how is it even possible? Wights are weak to V. Steel, Obsidian, Fire, and Water. Yet they were able to chain Viserion and pull him back up. And where the fuck did they get the massive chains? What did they just forged them? Took them from the Wildings? Took it apart from the Wall? (N. Watch’s contraptions) took it from Giants? (Who lorewise, never really had tech beyond … I would say caveman)

How funny would of it been if the Knight King missed badly and only had 1 spear at that

My only problem with this scene is how long did this all take? I mean, he sends Rob's bastard to the wall to send a Raven to Danny. And from there, she had to fly North (which takes 2 months on horse) beyond the wall in hopes of finding them. Maybe a day or 2?

3:30 Jon, seeing a seemingly invincible dragon get killed, decides to go fight more walkers instead of immediately hopping on Drogon and getting the fuck out of there. Maybe he does "know nothing" after all.

Because the author is taking too long with the next book for the series, and the writers for the show ran out of material to use for the last two seasons, so S7 - S8 is purely what they thought up on the spot as they got inpatient there in the end. 😑

Season 8vwas really full of most stupid scenes. Jon fighting white walkers unnecessarily, white walkers finding such big chains to bind the dragon and they even going in water which they were unable to a few moments earlier.

Dragons don't cross the wall in the world of ice and fire.

I dont know how in the life of me im going to bring myself to watch hotd because of the dragons dying

Watching Viserion die was so sad.

The books haven't reached this point yet. The show ran out of books to adapt at the end of season 5. So this is only show canon. The dragons are all still alive in the books as of now (btw the dragon's name is Viserion)
