Jojo Mayer - Changing Time (Documentary in English) | Sternstunde Musik | SRF Kultur

Swiss-American drummer Jojo Mayer grew up with a crocodile in his living room, spent his childhood on several continents and has been playing drums ever since he learnt how to sit upright. Today, Mayer is one of the most celebrated drummers worldwide, sells out shows with his band Nerve all over the world, and yet remains largely unnoticed by the mainstream music industry. For plausible reasons: to this day, his life has been a radical quest for new music, new ideas and ways to understand the time we live in - regardless of obstacles and consequences. Musician/director Alexis Amitirigala travelled along with the drummer, and right into the clockwork of his relentlessly spinning mind.

What a brilliant and talented man. Jojo Mayer is inspirational, a great teacher, phenomenal drummer, and a great person who truly cares about others, their passions, and music. I wish more people were like him.

This is what the mainstream doesn't show about musician life. Whatever the music call us, if we can, we go. And if we can play, we go too. Congratulations Jojo Mayer for you work. It inspiring me to move forward.

I'm blown away by this film. Just as I was blown away by Jojo and friends around 1998/9 in the basement of Ixtapa on 2nd ave, if I recall (Is that what he refers to as Izzy's?). Thank you so much for this film, you guys. It's inspiring! And thank you for all the blessings Mr Mayer, Nerve, and friends !

This was wonderful. Jojo is one of my biggest inspiration. As a sound engineer and technician myself, I cannot believe such a legendary band did not have a back-up rig and their own techs!! This is NOT ok. They deserve SO much better! We treat experimental musicians like shit, even the legends! D: Also this venue needs to check their electricity. Controller resetting itself? Noise bugs like this?! This is definitely an electrical problem. When guitarists show up with amplifiers, ground issues can even be fatal if the amplifiers are not properly grounded. Terrible.
