This summer, I saw this song on spotify, and was I so glad to find it. I listened to it while doing homework with my cousin beside me, the window was on, and the wind was so refreshing. I played the songs for so many hours, and my cousin had fallen asleep listening to it because she later asked what it was playing because it made her relaxed and dozed off. I literally won't forget that moment with such silence and peace thing that has ever happened in my life for the first time in such a long time because of all the things happening in my life at that time. I've been watching this MV occasionally since this was released but I just realized that the line "I'll give you something so real" made much more sense realizing that joji's archnemesis (the villain) had left him a "fake" eye, while his friend-turned-villain-for-him left him his "real" eye symbolizing how much he could give and his dedication just to make joji happy even if it hurts him too. I know it's the whole point of the MV and its main implication but I loved the visual details.

I think the plot is about boredom and losing your meaning in life The captain's (joji) meaning of life was to be a hero, to stop the bad guy, but when he finally did it and kill him, the captain realize that he lost his purpose in life, his purpose was to defeat the villain but when he finally managed to defeat him, he lost his meaning of life, so his friend became the new villain to make him happy

This whole album will forever be an absolute audible, conceptual, and visual masterpiece imo I'll never forget trying to piece together the story and falling into the Joji/Frank rabbit hole during the pandemic in the middle of the whole world falling apart. This album was one of the biggest things that helped me keep it together while all that was happening, and I was still working 5 days a week during a time you could get thrown in jail if you were outside for no reason.

They have flashbacks that reveal some of the story of fighting the bad guy with the fake eye, who steals the purple crystal and they have to get it back, etc etc. At the end the first mate decides that the only way to cheer joji up is to become the new bad guy, he kills a crewmate, steals the purple crystal, rips out his eye and escapes with the crystal.

this song came back to me after 3 years, honestly missed joji during my 2 year hiatus.

I think this song is the end credit song of the edgy era. This song truly captures the melancholy of the era so well.

Joji is the Captain. The tall guy is the First Mate. The First Mate is the right-hand man. He was the first to notice that because the Captain finally defeated his longtime Nemesis, he's now depressed with no purpose. What does the First Mate do? He becomes the Nemesis.

I just realized the story is. Hee defeated his enemy and since he had no enemy he had nothing to do and he became depressed so his best friend hated seeing him like that and decided he would be his enemy so that he would be happy again. And it worked. It's about sacrifice.

I listened to this song for the first time when I was alone in my leaving room, it was like a call of the universe, I have never listened to this song before and I don’t know how I got to hear it, it came out of nowhere! I cried and dazed. bc of this I give myself the strength and permission to continue being a hopeless romantic and being happy by myself but wanting love someday, beautiful ❤️

What I think happened in the video is: The copilot took off his eye and proceeded to become the new villain to make joji happy

@@jacobferraro1835 this is because after joji defeated the villain. he did not find any interest in anything anymore. so when the copilot knew that joji was sad because of that, he made the sacrifice to make joji happy again, he had to become the villain just for joji sake.

this is a very smart analysis.i was trying to get it at first,thinking that the copilot was the villain and he is just pretending to be the good guy.but now it makes sense,now the video seems more...bittersweet :)

So apparently the story is he feels empty after losing his arch nemesis so his friend decides to take his place to make him happy again

For whoever does not understand the music video and the dude taking his eye out, he did that to bring back joji to reality, he sacrificed his eye and himself just so joji can be himself again and not let down those who depend on him.

This song reminds me of what everything was before we break up Only God knew how much I wanted to spent my whole life with him and how much I love and miss him after we broke up but he can't see my feelings for him

I wanna say that the video is about a captain with a lost purpose after putting end to the evil villain. The spinning of the ship relating to a loss of direction. His best friend pulls out his own eye symbolic of sacrifice and of the previous villain. He then artificially creates a new purpose for the depressed captain by becoming the new villain of the story. The captain smiles and points somewhere in the distance. Because finally he knows where he needs to go.
