    First congrats on being able to join! I decided recently that joining the Air Force would be best for me. I know they can work with collections on our credit like you said with setting up payments and the waivers etc. but do you know anything about having charge offs? I have a couple credit cards I wasn’t able to keep up with so they were written off as a loss. Even though I spoke with a recruiter on the phone he didn’t really give me a set answer regarding that because technically the companies are no longer trying to collect that money so it’s probably pointless to try and pay it but I know it looks bad on my credit so idk if it would stop me from joining 🤷🏽‍♀️

    I apologize I am just seeing this and thank you btw. So if the company is not trying to collect the money anymore it shouldn’t show on your credit anymore or it will show as a write for up to 7 or 8 years I believe and then it will go away. However, when they were trying to collect is where it hit your credit negatively which they will see when they run your credit and might even question you about it. But as long as you currently don’t owe anything or anyone you should be fine. Good Luck!

    Please give me some advice. I have a good amount of debt on my CC. Nothing outrageously high but still something to make you flinch. I'm slowly paying it off and have never been late. No collections, charge offs or anything like that. I dont have a history of bad credit. My credit score only started to go down this past year because of the debt but nothing too drastic and I am still in the "good" part of credit score. I do plan on selling my car and most furniture before basic so that would take a good 25% off my debt. How would all this affect my enlistment process? Thank you.

  • @Jae_Mone

    @Jae_Mone

    4 жыл бұрын

    Kimberly Runes this shouldn’t have any impact on your enlistment process as long as you stay current with your payments. If they see the debt from the background check just let the recruiter know you are currently paying it off and provide proof if needed. Also it would be best for you to have enough money saved to have those payments automatically withdrawn from your account during BMT so that you don’t fall behind.

    @@Jae_Mone Thank you for your advice. I do notice on my card that if I pay way over the monthly minimum, let's say I pay 2 months worth in one sitting, that the month after will still show $0.00 due. and since I plan on putting a good few thousands dollars into it before BMT, I think it would cover the 8-9 weeks of training until I get enough flexibility in tech school to access my bank. At least that's how I think of it. What is your opinion of this? Thank you. I also read on the 40% rule in the airforce. Basically, the monthly due for the debt should not exceed more than 40% of your monthly pay. I did calculate it and it is well half that amount.

  • @Jae_Mone

    Hello, I have so far 20,000 in students loans for my university. And I plan on joining the air-force after I graduate. I was wondering if the air force would assist me in paying them off faster because I spoke with an Air Force recruiter and he told me they don’t off the college loan repayment program any more. I want to know what other college loan repayment plan do they have in the air force that the recruiters don’t tell you about because I really need help with these study loans to build my credit score up and not get into debt?

  • @Jae_Mone

    @Jae_Mone

    4 жыл бұрын

    Calvin Martin II I have not heard of any repayment programs that the Air Force offers for student loans however, there are still other ways to get your payment down as low as $20 depending on where you live. Once you are in the military your loans should be capt at 6% bringing the payments down. Also you should talk to the company your loan is through to see what income based payment plans they have which you should qualify for once you are in the military. Lastly ask them if they offer loan forgiveness and if so, after how many years? I hope this helps but lmk if you have anymore questions. Good luck.

    rxzero00 yes you can still apply for a waiver and because the unpaid payments will show on your credit report your recruiter should advise to put in a waiver and if they don’t you should ask. Also as long as you have been making an effort make your payments from the arrangement you have and can show proof of it (because they will ask for proof) I don’t see why your waiver wouldn’t be approved!

    Phillip Huynh as I do not know for sure, however if you have something in collections it’s still a debt regardless of the amount (i.e possible liability). Hey I am not really too knowledgeable about the Army’s processing process but I don’t think that the debt amount may be an issue. If so some things they may consider that may hinder your process would be the reason for the debt, if your have a payment arrangement for it and if you are up to date with the payment arrangement. If I were you I would do some research to see what is the percentage of debt you can have entering the army. I hope this info helps. Good luck with everything!

  • @Jae_Mone

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey! Based on my experience it is possible to join with $12,000 in collection. However, I do believe being proactive towards getting that debt out of collections with proof of payments or payment plan will help significantly. Keep in mind due to you having debt in collections it will show on your credit report depending on how recent it is. Therefore, you will have to submit a waiver, which is the only way to get in in your case scenario. If your recruiter doesn’t mention anything about submitting a waiver that may be a red flag. I hope this helps. Good luck!

The main thing is what are you doing to get out of it or did you learn your lesson? It seems like you have a plan so that’s all that matters. Also, during either of your interviews especially with investigations if they ask you or mention it tell the truth because they already have information on you. The fact that the bills are in collections may effect your application process in general. You more thank likely would have to make the bill current meaning getting it out of collections (and setting up a payment plan). I don't believe you can join the military with bills in collections. I def. recommend you inform your recruiter and let them what your plan is to pay it off. If your recruiter is trying to help you with moving forward with your application great, but if they seem to be blowing you off and not trying to move forward with you joining I HIGHLY recommend either talking to their supervisor or going to a different recruiter. Hope this helps. Goodluck!
