COVID-19 sniffer dogs do valuable work to protect the health and well-being of all of us.
A COVID-19 sniffer dog study conducted by the University of Helsinki’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has found that trained COVID-19 sniffer dogs can detect COVID-19 in humans quickly and even more reliably than laboratory tests.
Based on these preliminary results, COVID-19 sniffer dogs will be used at Helsinki Airport until the end of 2020 to test passengers arriving in Finland for COVID-19 using voluntarily given skin swab samples.
In addition, other studies are also constantly being conducted to find out what dogs can detect from samples.
The Finnish Kennel Club supports COVID-19 sniffer dog research so that enough evidence on the superiority of dogs’ sense of smell can be collected to make COVID-19 sniffer dog activities official.
