This video shows the training I am doing with my horse Emporio. He is a 4yo PRE stallion and I am an AMATEUR rider. I hope you enjoy watching us make some mistakes and some great moments under the guidance of Emmelie Scholtens. Yes the horse is behind the vertical sometimes and yes there is a lot to work on from both sides. But this is the truth of how we are currently going. I hope you love it guys ❤️

Without even watching this video first... Matt, Seeing how worried and stressed you looked in your stories, just announcing this upcoming video, made me feel I should say a few things that maybe I should’ve posted sooner. I usually never write down comments, but here we go... I started following you ever since last year, because I’m a horse fanatic myself and although I’ve never been a fan of the whole horseworld (I hate the competitionmentality of most people, not to mention the mental and physical abuse a lot of horses suffer), I liked you from the very beginning. Not because of your looks, not because of your popularity, not because of the fact you’re an influencer, ... but purely because I was so impressed by your entire journey and the love you have for your horses. You’re always so honest, you keep both your feet on the ground, you care so deeply for your horses and your fans that come to see you. And the fact that you always want to keep everyone around you happy and like you, says so much about you. Not to mention; you’ve travelled across the world on your own, built up a whole new life on the other side of the world, worked so hard to get where you are today and keep on doing so... and you’re ONLY 22 years old! Most guys your age will never reach the level of maturity you’re at. So reading all those negative, hateful comments every single time you post something... It disgusts me. Knowing 99,9% of those people will NEVER have the balls (pardon my language) to do what you have done, on such a young age. On social media nowadays it’s so easy to leave nasty comments and move on with their lives, without having to think about the consequences. But you’re left there on your own, dealing with those distasteful comments while you only try to share your journey to help others live their dream and take care of their furkids the best way you can. I really hope you realise you do not EVER have to feel obliged to answer to any of them and that you don’t owe anyone anything. You’re not a product, you’re a human being. They’re not entitled to have any business in your personal life or affect what you share with the world. You’re such a beautiful, kind, down-to-earth person. Don’t ever change. Haters, go ahead, your heart out!

It's all about how they were trained as yearlings. For an example. I rode a horse that had ground work started late and it was bad, the horse was super stressed and not focused. My mustang was ground broke at 11months old (after being wild) and was taken EVERYWHERE till he was old enough to ride so he already had the exposure and he is the calmest, smartest horse I've riden.

@@darianavila3890 oh absolutely, training while they are young plays a huge part and i think it's a huge testament to the work put into Emporio that he is the way he is. Still you can't put temperament and disposition completely out of the equation. Two horses can be equally well and thoroughly trained and still react completely different to stressful situations. And Emporio reacting the way he does is for me a mixture between good training but also a good character.

I imagine when you have a high public profile, especially in the equestrian community, that it can be stressful to put yourself out there before the critical eye of those who ride and show. Horse people often seem to take tremendous pleasure in dissecting other riders and tearing them down. It is a sad reality. But truly, this is what makes your story enjoyable to watch, from keeping horses at home, and the hard work and the benefits that entails, to keeping one at a professional barn, and the training and progress you are striving for... These are the videos that tell your story the a best and help other riders. Keep it real. Good job

Manure Rancher I resent the fact that you presume I don’t respect my horse because I don’t bandage him. I use well fitted medicine boots instead! They are quick to put on, provide support and protection, are easier to clean, and I do not have to worry about pressure points which can be created by ill fitted bandages. New studies show that bandaging or boots can actually be more harmful for horses due to the temperature that the leg gets to when in work. Leg protection holds heat in the leg creating inflammation and stress, and this heat sometimes does not dissipate quickly once the protection is removed. So over the summer I haven’t been using any boots at all in an effort to keep the legs cooler, followed by icing afterwards if our session has been a tough one. Please, leave your judgemental tone and condescension at the door and just appreciate the joke for what it was. Don’t judge others or their alleged practices or attitude to their horse when you have absolutely no idea what they are.

I've worked with some lusitano stallions a few years back and experienced this exprem tenseness but on the same time that will to work and please. I think even though spanish breeds want to work like hell and are so easy in all those lateral movements (compared to other breeds) I still think keeping it easy in the beginning is so important. The less you do - the more you get in the long. But Emporio is really an amazing horse - I think it's good you keep in mind he is still a baby and has loads of growing up to do.

Looking forward to more training, schooling videos. You certainly have lovely steeds! Thanks for sharing.

Love seeing the development in him! You can obviously see his hind legs are getting much stronger. The tilting of the head will get better the stronger he gets. Young horses often do this when they lack a little balance and power (my 5 y/o has his moments still). My trainer gave me the great tip to slightly lift my outside rein the moment my horse tilts, to bring him back into a straight head position. Works great for me, might also work for you! Thank you for the video & f@ck the keyboard warriors/internet trainers :)

This was very interesting, and thank you for sharing. It was like going to a clinic. I especially enjoyed seeing how when you did a teeny travers, it straightened him, and then I enjoyed when she had you think about a little piaffe, there were the beginnings of it. That was exciting to see. Although eventually being able to do the different movements with a well schooled horse is cool, sometimes the trip there is even better and more exciting. How wonderful to see Emporio respond as he did.

Too much behind the vertical line(like seen with Emporio), to less deep an forward (if that is the right phrase), but like I said that's me personal. What ever floats you'r boat, man, as long as you a very close looks on Emporio and I'm sure you do.

@@mellillaa4863 You know this myth has perpetuated in the horse world since WW2 and it's nonsense. There is no biomechanical imperative for why a PRE would be more or less likely to "get behind the vertical". There is no science to support that view. I'd say in his lovley short life he's been trained to overflex, most likely by his previous trainer. Nuno would be whizzing in his grave to see what is being trained into his beloved PREs these days.

Great video, it was very interesting! On the topic of the difference between the head carrying; I personally think there is a HUGE difference between a rider PULLING an older horse behind the bit on purpose and into rollkür, and a young horse FALLING behind the bit because it’s not strong enough to be on or in front of the bit without collapsing in the back if that makes sense.. my “horse English” is not good lol Emporio just looks like he’s falling behind it a little, and that is perfectly normal for a young horse that needs to learn and to build it’s strength 😊
