It is no small thing to have had the privilege of meeting and hearing the legendary maestro Zakir Hussain on his recent tour at the Trustees Theater. His performance (TISRA) with Flute-player Debopriya Chatterjee and Sarangi-player Sabir khan was an unforgettable fusion of talent, passion, and cultural richness. It is no wonder then that the maestro holds India’s highest civilian honors in Art (Padma Vibhushan) and bagged home three Grammys this year! While his music is striking, what struck me best was his humility (and just how energetic and humorous he was).
