    Wow this takes me back , to the mid. 80's with the exception that I was usually milking about 1000 head and I had worked a full 8 hours before most had even left to.go to work. Then I worked outside and field work till the afternoon milking at 2:00 pm. You do a great job. I enjoy your videos.

    That was a great video Tay! I was happy to see more of your milking than we have. It's funny how there are always stragglers that you have to go chase up. I think that is some kind of law or something! Brett sitting on the cow was great! I don't know that I have ever seen a cow lay still for that. 😃 I guess that's a perk of the tie-stall barn. They're more relaxed. Keep up the great work!

    Looks like a lovely morning routine. At least you are getting some rain over there. I don't know what Parlor you were milking in but mine is an easy clean. I hook up milkers, power wash the floor, run a sink full of water, turn on the automatic washer and I'm out the door doing something else, about 15 minutes.

    Taylor I will bet a lot of people think the routine of milking gets awful boring. Any job has it's boring spots but my experience is farm work has so much variety and when working with animals there is always a wrinkle to each day or hour. And if you love what you do.... which abviously you do, it makes the routine easier.

    Good morning Taylor, it’s easy to see that you enjoy working with your girls because you always have smile on you face.😊 Those are some beautiful heifer calves that you are raising. It’s going to be fun watching them grow up. Right now you are feeding with half milk and half milk replacer. When do you start feeding them hay? I can see how using sawdust as a bedding material is very beneficial. It provides good traction for your girls and prevents getting a sloppy tail in the face. It’s easy to see your girls are on pasture because they have a nice shiny coat and it gives them some exercise also. Thanks again for another informative video. Keep smiling. 😉

    I have one better than you do about green grass, Peas, Yes Peas...When we had our Farm, Grandpa would grow 40 to 50 Acres of Peas for Birdseye. After they were picked we would go out and use a Flail Chopper and chop them and feed to the Cows, I am here to tell you, By experience you Did Not want to stand behind any of the Cows after they ate those Pea Vines. They were a great source of protein and other nutrients for them, But God awful for the Diarrhea part. And Stink, WOW !!! There is your Pea Vine lesson for the day. Enjoyed your video, Thanks for sharing.

Some of that poop travels a long way .. smilin ... cool to see your process of milking, curious as to how does the milkers suck the milk, why are there two lines that go to the milking apparatus, and maybe show the route of the milk takes when it gets into the tank room .. just an idea for content, and then again maybe you have done that already .... thx for the share Taylor .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....

    Patz corporation out of Wisconsin still makes barn cleaner chain I believe. When we quit milking in 2000 we sold the gutter chain and filled the gutters with gravel for storage purposes. Also from Wisconsin Berg equipment manufacturers chain you can google both places. I know it is a distance away but unfortunately tie stall and stantion barns with operating gutter cleaners are a dying thing sadly.

    Is it unusual to keep cows so long and don't they produce less milk as they get older ?

  • @tayfarms

    @tayfarms

    I’ve heard that, we personally haven’t had any issues with loss of production as they age. One of our best milkers a few years ago gave 80lbs the day before she died of a heart attack. She was 18

    @@tayfarms I watch two other dairy farm channels and it seems like they dry cows out every so often and then mate them and repeat the cycle and then eventually send them off to the butcher - presumably because they produce less milk. It seems like your farm doesn't do that. If that's true, maybe you could mention in a video and how and why of that. Thanks for the great videos.

    They like to be milk so they wait until the machine gets taken off. We do have one that likes to lay on the milk machine though😂
