Got to see Johnny in a small club, was maybe 6 feet away from him, When I first heard Johnny in 67 m favorite song was Leland Miss.great album ,love everything he has done. It's fuckin criminal that he's not in the Hall 0f Fame, he inspired many a player. His lighting fast picking and awesome slide work is second to none. His work with Muddy Waters is amazing. Do the music world justice and enshrine him in the Hall of Fame.

I saw Johnny in the Hammersmith Odeon in London about 1975, at the time I was seeing top live bands 2 or 3 times a week. Johnny started playing and the whole place started rocking, hairs on my arms and neck stood up, I have seen the who (My favourite band) dozens of times, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Stones, Budgie, Man, No one has come close to the sheer energy of Johnny

best guitar player ever. you might understand that only if you know how to play the axe and do it outstandingly well, not just techs and tricks of the dump each nerd can learn. Johnny is born with the guitar but also with the taste of blues and a true rock n roll heart. Cheers old friend

I waited on line for what seemed like all day to get tickets to see Johnny Winter And at the Fillmore East the last week. Then right before the show it was cancelled. I think he went into rehab. He never played with “And” ever again even though Randy Jo Hobbs stayed with him. I wish I still had the ticket as a remembrance but in 1971 I needed the $5.50 so I returned it.

@BermondseySteve I've been listening to Johnny for 40 years now - first saw him live back in 1973 in Kitchener Ontario. My sister just saw him in Michigan a couple of weeks ago at the "Lexington" and she said he was great. She even met him backstage! The only thing I can say is -- I really doubt there will ever be anyone as good as Johnny and it'll be a sad fucking day when he's gone. Until then I hope he keeps on rockin' and I bet he knows many of us consider him to be THE BEST ~~~ EVER!

Johnny Winter was definitely a great guitar player with a very unique style of picking. Definitely the best slide player my ears have heard. Greatest guitarist in the world? There's jazz guys that would play circles around him. Johnny was pretty much (although not always) a I-IV-V blues player and used pentatonic blues scales. BUT nobody ever did as much inside of that box. I've seen Johnny twice. I've seen Alvin Lee, Zappa, lots of big name rock guitarists. I saw John McLaughlin last year and after 45 years of concert attendance I never heard anyone come remotely close to that guy's knowledge and intensity in playing. I will say Johnny is easily the best rock/blues guitar player I have seen though.

I've seen him a number of times over the years. Yes, he was down for awhile, but he's getting stronger again every year. And, when he was at his lowest his single note playing was about 1/4 speed (but still great, because every note meant something - no filler.) But his slide playing was right on target, even then. Great technique, great notes. If you get a chance to see him play, you won't be disappointed.

No one else has ever played slide this well. His guitar playing, voice, and personality blow away all other bluesmen over the past 50 years. I wish he'd go on forever, to show the next generations how it should be done. Clapton had some hits with Cream, but, except for some flashes of brilliance (Crossroads), his reputation as a premier guitarist should have gone to Johnny instead. Best ever: Page, Hendrix, Winter.

@talkingwall....wont change my mind you say. Johnny´s fluid pick, singin on top of it, utmost difficult finger breaking double stops and the full library of all getting inbetween this and any HANDMADE speed, bend, ghost, tap, legato or whatever some could mention when music still was made by hand and sweat and not by tons of tricky effect boards.... I am not talking about taste, talking about true guitar art work and send my own credits always back to Johnny and second Jimi

There is no Rock Hall of Fame Without JW it never had credibility and since they inducted smoos like Iggy Pop and Abba and rap music that prooves they suck. That bogus organization played blind eye to Tower of Power, Little Feat, Doobie Brothers, Los Lobos, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Steve Miller, The Fixx, Deep Purple, Tommy Castro,Johnny Hiland, Sonny Landreth, Albert Lee, Alvin Lee and other greats. Rock Hall in Cleveland is cool but the induction committee is clueless.
