As a kid I was lucky enough to see this series in syndicated U.S. release on television. This was also the first time as a child I witnessed the concept of self sacrifice for a greater good. It hit hard. And even now today 40 + years later it still gets me in the feels. Like a gods damned hammer.

Today is my 57th birthday. And just like the first time I saw this, some time during the early 1970's, I cry. I cry, because Giant Robot is my friend. Has been since I was that child. When a friend dies, it hurts. So, I hurt. I salute you, Giant Robot! You showed what the greatest heroes do, when there is only one way to stop the evil.

After this, I always knew the good guy might die. Had this not happened, I would have always known in the back of my mind that the ending would be happy. So there would be less suspense. Incredible ending.

Man this part right here had me doing my damndest to stay strong as a 6 year old in 1972, but it was too heavy on my heart and I couldn't hold it and started crying. I instantly fell in love with Giant Robot and my brother who was 9 years old at the time was trying to explain to me that it was just a movie. I wasn't trying to hear it cause I had just witnessed my super hero dying. Still my all-time favorite monster movie of all monster movies.

A great movie to bring back Giant Robot would be..... The grandson of Johnny finds the watch in an attic or basement in one of his grandfathers storage chests. After hearing stories of his grandfathers adventures with Giant Robot, he ponders trying it out, but is skeptical. But before he does, a new monster appears ready to destroy anything in its path. The military can’t destroy it. All hope is lost. In an act of desperation, the grandson of Johnny Sokko pleas into the watch for Giant Robot. And, out of the sky, the legendary Robot flys in to save the world. A new era of Giant Robot begins.......

I ran home from school to watch this show every day. I absolutely loved it in 1969 as a 6 yr old. This final episode was the first time I cried watching a show. At 60 I still mist up partly from the nostalgia of youth and the innocence of that time. I would think this could be Spielberged into a great movie. But he would hopefully keep Giant robots appearence the same but with modern effects and keep the heart of the original. Hey, they did transformers.

Robot was our friend and in many ways, our hero. He taught us the meaning of sacrifice and duty. He showed us that in the light of defeatism to never give up and to never lose hope. Funny how this one show showed us all what a real friend is. John 15:13 tells us that " No Greater Love hath no man than this, that a man would lay down his life for his friends..." Robot became more of a human being than we ever could that sad day and even 53 years later still inspires us to a higher calling to.be better to one another post this Covid pandemic. In closing....Thank You Giant Robot. We the fans mourn you still but are proud of what you stood for. All of us Unicorns Teams AROUND THE WORLD salute you!!!! LONG LIVE GIANT ROBOT!!!!

Yup, I’m 53 years old and this STILL sucks to watch a favorite character die. No closure or childhood loss of something endearing? Who can say, but maybe some day (when Johnny desperately needs him again) Giant Robot will be rebooted and come back out of the sky. 🫣

These older Japanese Monster Movies always had a moral theme or life lessons that taught as you were entertained, Giant Robot came back to life and fought off the Alien Emperor Guillotine and his army of Nazi beatniks who looked really cool, and sacrificed himself to save Humanity from the Grips of an evil Tyrant, as a kid watching this in 1981 i was crushed and bowed my head took a deep breath, i cried inside and had always hoped by some miracle The Giant Robot would come back or somehow miraculously survived, Talk about Nostalgia

Giant Robot died most honorably. The first time I saw this series was in 1972. I thought it was great. Then I saw Ultraman, and, man, loved that too. But, this series ended heroically and possibly influenced the end of "The Iron Giant".
