I remember this match. sexton was still trying to get in the groove and missed alot of kicks back then. Has turned into an awesome player now tho. must have had a good coach when at Racing.

ROG was senior man there. He knew what he was doing stepping on to the pitch just at a time when penalty awarded. Designed to unsettle Sexton undoubtedly.

Can’t believe the comments here . Sexton 10 times the player O’Gara ever was . It’s like suggesting Hayes was better than Furlong . ROG was defensive weak link , could not nor would not tackle . Sexton best Irish 10 ever . Easily .

Definitely a better player in the open which is the game Ireland should play rather than a territory kicking game that ROG was excellent at. OGara was a better kicker obviously but that's not what Sexton is about. Ireland play better rugby now

@@patrickdoyle9304 all of 2007? Heineken cup final 2003? All the crucial missed tackles? Plenty of noteworthy bottles by ROG, does that make him a bottler? No, you can clip up mistakes and isolate performances to paint any player poorly, On their overall careers Sexton has bettered ROG at all levels. The only thing ROG has is points and caps, he played and will play longer than Sexton and with less injuries but by virtue of his weaknesses, which is that he had no physical presence in attack or defence.

O'Gara when he came on kicked two penalties - one with his right and the other with his left. He then drop-kicked a goal by backheeling it from 40 meters out in the corner. ''by far the better player'' Really O'Gara started 0 Lions tests Sexton started 5 won 4 and drew 1.Sexton has beaten the all blacks twice ROG never has and he's won more at international and provincial level than ROG. So to summarise Sexton is Ireland's best ever 10 by quite a distance.

To be fair , let's compare the teams , because teams win matches , not individual players. Let's compare the grand slam winners of 2009 versus now. The ireland team now don't have as many world class players , but they work together unbelievabley well as a team. In 2009 , they had some of the best ireland players of all time; Brian o'driscoll, rog, Paul o connell etc. But they didn't stick together as a team consistently. Rog is a better kicker , but sexton is a better tackler , hence all the concussions. But he's stubborn , and any fault he has he fixes it. Rog achieved a lot in his career too , including winning ireland's first grand slam in 61 years.

Ireland's greatest ever 10 was Kyle. Followed by Gibson. Section probably third greatest- unless you count Magee.

Most of the forwards from that generation are too small to play backline positions these days and you cant tell how they would have reacted to putting on the weight. Gibson as majestic as he was, would get smashed by a modern scrum half. ROG was seldom if ever a top 3 fly half in the world during his career, Sexton was not only that but wom world player of the year, hes also won more. Sexton has a few 9/10 areas of his game and then a load of 8/10s. ROG had 9.5/10s but also 2/10s

I think Sexton is a much better player than O gara. O gara was a good kicker ...but not as good at defense or attack as sexton..... Having said that if we had a bit more crossover between the two it would have been amazing. Imagine O gara was 2/3 years younger. If we had had both on the team in 2015 it would have made a massive difference. Pity really. I think Sexton is now so good that its meant we havent been able to develop a second 10

Neither of them would make the All Blacks side.

O Gara = Great man and Player, Sexton = Ginny Ann and Journeyman
