Country is the flamenco of the electric guitar in the sense that it’s _incredibly_ difficult and taxing to play, requiring a lot of stamina, but that they also both squeeze out _every possible sound_ from their instruments, and sometimes in the most ingenious and resourceful of ways. Country players are definitely a different breed.

@@andrewpayne6295 Instead of holding a pick between the pointer finger and thumb, a thumb pick has a ring attached. You slide it over your thumb and you can have your pointer finger free, amongst other benefits. Country players use it a lot, often with similar picks added to their pointer finger and/or others. Very hard to get accustomed to.

No. Just... ...no. Both are great, but SRV was all about soul and feel, and plus he had a terrific singing voice and stage presence. Johnny Hiland is more about speed, flash and mixing disparate styles. Very innovative. But comparing SRV to Johnny H isn't even an "apples to oranges" comparison. More like tomatoes to pineapples. Couldn't be more different.

You happen to have one of these guutar nukes in your band (not quite JH but really hot) was it my Imagination or did they ALWAYS PLAY TOO LOUD? Just like almost every JH live gig i've ever heard. Terrible mix!!! And its just about always because of him!!! These Hot rod fighter pilots just have NO clue about what makes the overall sound coming off the stage sound better or worse. In their defense, I honestly dont think they're listening. If you could drill down into their brain they might be thinking, "i aint no sound engineer!! Im a guitar wonder from space, so shut up and leave me alone!!!!" Just like beautiful, spoiled girls, WHAT WOULD WE DO WITHOUT'EM??? You go head on Johnny...
