If a live version of a song is done right, a lot of the times its better.

U see performances like this, and forget he was ever in New Edition. Johnny was just a stand alone act all his own. Plus, it's hard to think of a crooner like him as a member of the world's first Black Heart throb Boy Band

Without NE JG would have most likely been a stand still ballad singer. NE taught him to dance and exposed him to a bigger audience of fans than he had before as a solo artist. Likewise JG helped NE go from boy band to grown group and now they are linked forever as NE...

He can sing with such passion in his voice and his vibrations in the new edition song: Boys to Men" sounds like the late Luther vandross. He did need New Edition because at that time his solo career was failing and singing with NE helped him get his face more known and it also got him a fan base that he never had before. When he got with Keith Sweat and Gerald Levert he needed something stable after that Home Again disaster and LSG kept him going when the rest of NE fell off.

They needed each other. Johnny voice was so grown they didn’t know how to market him. He didn’t appeal to the people his age and he was too young to appeal to the older crowd. New edition gave him that balance and their fans fell in love with him and when that happened it was all she wrote. He’s def my fav male singer of all time
