Absolutely beautiful. My most favorite piece of music ever written and well directed by John Williams. Tragic but breathtakingly beautiful. Takes my breath away every time I listen. And of course watching the movie is such a treat............the music plus Kim Novak.........over the top!

Goosebumps everytime on that climactic note. It's such a powerful, yet awkward and almost disturbing choice of tone that would set anyone on edge. The scene is so beautiful yet so sick that the whole thing is unsettling. Bernard Hermann's genius in film accompaniment is shown at the top of its game here. One can hardly here this music and not see Kim Novak walk out of that ghostly green lighting. Ironically the image in my head isn't so vivid. It's as if Hitchcock knew that he set up a foggy scene that would continue to be foggied as someone imagined it in their memories later on.

The music is incredibly beautiful yet sinister at the same time. It’s a true feat of cinematic music.

I love this magnificent music. Mystery, obsession, love and desire. Longing for what you cannot have but want so much.

This music stirs the imagination and the soul. The love obsession taken to its' highest level.

Achingly beautiful. The build up and use of Wagner's influential 'Tristan Chord' is perfect!

Cudos to the musicians who were able to stay composed while playing this piece. It’s beautiful and really emotionally triggering.

Me too when I did see the movie i just like got shocked about the beautiful story and the powerful music 💖

One can't hear this haunting music and not think of Kim Novak and how hard this role must of been to perform. A distant beauty with only an occasional glimpse of longing for the truth. Hitchcock could not have found a better cast or composer.

Why the fuck this only has 12.000 views? It is a video of one the best composers alive conducting a orchestra playing a score of one of the best composers of all time that made this piece for one of the best movies of all time directed by Hitchcock one of the best directors of all time! 12.000 views??? Really? WTF

I don't know... i have 80 videos or so from John Williams as a conductor for his own music or for music from others on this channel, but only few of them are viewed. and 12.000 is not the worst ! Prelude from north by northwest, pink panther, days of wine and roses, moon river !!! michel legrand, tony bennet, Mr Williams conducting excerpts from 2001 !! ok, the picture is awful but.. 1900 views lol. this channel is not monetized. i have no clue.

That film and musical scorel was release more than 60 years ago. That is why the views are so low. In my opinion it is a masterpiece both visual and musical

Thanks for up this marvelous music. Togheter my favorites cinema music composers: Williams and Herrmann. It's emotional and great!

Herrmann's life and genius is often described as that of a savant.

Luscious and full of longing. They don’t write them like this anymore, lol. The peak moment is inspired by the Tristan and Isolde Chord. Wonderful performance here.

The entire piece was inspired by the "Liebestod" where Herrmann like Wagner uses chromaticism to build up tension and finally release.

Yes, but it's more than just chromaticism, like the 11/13 chords even as intervals in the melody itself, the breathing of cresc/decresc, the masterful orchestration, sautille et con legno and many more details...

Fantastic! I don't have the deep knowledge to comment on the performance, but it sounds perfect to me. The legato passages flow beautifully, the orchestra is tight and the dynamics sound impeccable to my humble old ears.

The story about the meeting of Herrmann with steven spielberg during the recording session of Taxi driver is very interesting. Bernard died the night after :( A meeting was planned after this meeting, maybe Spielberg wanted to hire herrmann for Close Encouter ? I don't know, never saw spielberg talking about this but that would be interesting that someone ask this question to him one day !

@@Martyprod2 Herrmann once said his score for The Ghost And Mrs. Muir was his favorite and I sort of agree. Also it's interesting that Herrmann's music never dropped in quality in his old age.

Une vraie énigme...

Reports are a remake of Vertigo is being planned with Robert Downey Jr. Vertigo is a classic. A film noir. You can’t capture that essence. The way this movie was filmed in the Hitchcock style combined with the brilliant Bernard Hermann score and the two leads…. nope.

Le reste du concert arrive, je viens de poster tous les morceaux a l'instant. ça a été enregistré a la tv americaine a l'époque en 2004, par un de mes amis, tout simplement :). Vous avez en general quasi l'integralité du show tv, car j'y poste séparement tous les morceaux, mais aussi les interviews (séparement, pour diverses raisons).

@@Ulfarks c'est avec grand plaisir, et merci beaucoup ! je suis egalement pianiste, et passionné par la musique de film (avec quelques preferences facile a deviner) didiermartini.com / kzread.info , heureux que ça fasse plaisir a certains. j'ai encore un peu de stock, de quelques bricoles de JW, du boston pops aussi (non dirigé par JW) que je n'ai jamais eu l'occasion de poster, je vais essayer de le faire dans les jours qui viennent.

Quelqu'un peut-il m'expliquer pourquoi Williams a l'air si contrarié à la fin? Le regard noir, le signe négatif de la main... je ne l'ai jamais vu comme cela. Herrmann est mon compositeur préféré et, évidemment, j'ai au moins une cinquantaine de versions de cette "Scène d'amour". Celle-ci me parait très correcte (peut-être un truc bizarre dans les cuivres à la fin effectivement, je crois qu'ils sont décalés) . Si mon chef me faisait cela, j'irais direct m'enterrer au fond du jardin.

@@Martyprod2 Merci pour ta réactivité. Williams est d'habitude si souriant quand il dirige et là on dirait qu'il a envie de tuer tout le monde. En plus, c'est son orchestre, quand même, le Boston Pops. Je ne suis qu'amateur violoncelliste en orchestre symphonique et j'ai déjà eu le bonheur de jouer Herrmann (La Mort aux trousses). On avait préparé une suite avec mon chef et à la première répé, sans m'en avoir prévenu, il m'avait demandé de présenter l'oeuvre à l'orchestre disant que tout le monde savait que je suis comme un spécialiste d'Herrmann. Je n'ai pas cette partition (vertigo), donc difficile de savoir ce qui cloche. Je veux bien que tu mènes l'enquête de ton côté et moi je demanderai, j'ai beaucoup d'amis pros.

Bonjour voici, la reponse de mon ami Corniste a ta question : "Haha en effet son geste laisse à penser qu'il est pas content mais je pense que c'est juste sa façon de ressentir la fin du morceau et de le transmettre aux musiciens, morceau poignant qui se finit en decrescendo des cordes avec vibrato"

I don't think Williams is angry at the orchestra. Probably that last note has a "On Cue" sign on it, meaning it's upon sign of the director to end the note. He's probably just saying "no" with the hand in order to tell to the players to make that note longer in advance, as he's afraid they're going to end that note too soon.

@@FrancescoDAndrea there's definitely a mistake in one of the trombones. Right after the Eb Major chord you can hear him play an E natural against the still sounding Eb, than right after the Ab you can hear he's already playing his final note on the C Major chord.

Hi, nothing wrong I think. this question has already been asked previously here, and i asked to my musical collaborator, friend, and horn player, Marc Papeghin who is a JW specialist much more than me, what he thinks about this, and here is his answer : ""Haha right, his hand can let think that he's unhappy but I think it's just his way to feel the end of the tune and to show it / spread it to the musicians as it's a very emotive and powerful tune which is ending with a string decrescendo with vibrato"

@@Martyprod2 JW did this exact same gesture somewhere else (can't remember). I think it's (during the final fermata and decrescendo): "No, don't stop yet, hold your notes until my signal" Then he gives the signal, the orchestra stops and JW is happy.

HERRMANN MAKES WILLIAMS LOOK LIKE THE HACK HE IS!😅
