John Wayne was my hero because of his core values. Treat people the way you want to be treated

I agree with Ethan his dad helped direct this nation of ours in a good way . No one could ever play your dad on a remake of this. No one has the chops to play his role. John Wayne gave us in the world a person to emulate, in a good way.

I miss John Wayne and the truth he brought with him everywhere.. The country has lost its Way, its Culture, and it's Truth...

Actually it was "1 flavor of" or "1 interpretation of". I adore John Wayne, but all can never desire the same brand of (cookie, coffee, soda, or Life living style) Our favorite is merely that, our style. I admire a number of the era's actors, but have a totally different perspective, politically, religiously, spiritually, but the key is "agreeing" on individual Freedom and personal Liberties. I remember Maureen O'Hara when she went to Congress and petitioned Congress for the medal of freedom for the Duke, it was fantastic to watch her, she was just a strong-willed as the Duke and made me proud to be an American...

True blessing to still have Patrick and Chris whom are in their eighties and Ethan talking about the priceless behind the scenes stories of a fantastic movie. Thank you.

I’m from Northwest Ontario Canada a town that borders with Minnesota. This is how I got hooked on being a big John Wayne fan and at that time I didn’t know to many other kids teenagers that watch his movies like I did. Growing up in the early eighties we had three Channels on a good day we could get on our used 30ft tv antenna coming out of Duluth Minnesota. One of the channels I think was called KDHL Duluth Minnesota that ran a show called “The Matinée Money Movie” hosted by Ken Shapen think every day around 4pm. I would watch if I didn’t have too many chores that day after I got home from School. We lived out in the country. So anyways they would host all the great classics and the first time I seen “Big Jake” I loved what a great movie! The “Cowboys” I think I actually I seen first. What Great Movies and another true John Wayne classic. Absolutely loved them both! I think “Big Jake” it was the setting the turn of the century when old meets new I thought was pretty cool. A Luger versus a Colt. A Harley versus a Horse a Winchester and a bolt action with Scope and it was still a Western in every way. The west was still alive! John Wayne’s played characters that you looked up to and the type of guy that got respect because they earned it through their blood sweat and tears. We all knew guys like this growing up a lot of guys looked up to They worked hard played hard and was tough as nails. Mine was my father. That’s what’s missing in today’s Society on Screen a real mans characters with real values for young men to look up too. Remind us where we came from.

Big jake had the best character intro I have ever seen. Duke looking down the rifle barrel. And to the wayne family , thank you , thank you , thank you !

Thank you Ethan. Big Jake ranks towards the top of your father's best movies. Patrick and Christopher Mitchum were great together as the sons. Of course there is the iconic line " I thought your dead.. Not hardly"

My dad owned a grandson to Cochise, the Alpaloosa Duke rode in El Dorado. Dad was a huge fan. My dad's business partner in his cattle business, knew Duke. Unfortunately dad never met him. By the way, The Colt Duke carried in this film sold for over half a million dollars 7 months ago at auction. Showed how much Duke is still admired.

Anything to do with John Wayne - I LOVE! My final thought is Mr. Wayne would be so proud of his family carrying on tradition and his legacy... I enjoyed this immensely!! Wish they would have spoke a little more re Robert Mitchum, another great actor!

I love this whole program!! I am very sad hear how John Wayne was treated during Vietnam. That is terrible and for his sons and friends aswell. John Wayne was a true American 🇺🇸

I remember the first time I seen Big Jake in the theater. When John Wayne was introduce in the film, You can hear the whole audience say "Oh S###"!!! And cheers went out.

John Wayne was and is one of the greatest on the big screen and every movie was a very clean show

I JUST WATCHED "WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE" AND A FEW DAYS BEFORE I WATCHED "THE SHOOTIST" FOR MORE TIMES THAN I WILL EVER REMEMBER! IT NEVER GETS OLD! JOHNY WAYNE WAS MY HERO WHEN I WAS A CHILD AND HE STILL IS TODAY AT AGE OF 68! *LONG LIVE THE DUKE!*

My wife and I were going to have twins and she had the name Jordan for one of our boy’s. She said “Albert, you need to give our son a name.” After 3 weeks of thinking I was watching ‘Bib Jake.’ I said “Jacob will be his name. Our twins turned 33 years old this year.”

Chris Mitchum is a great guy.

My first John Wayne movie, loved it and was hooked for life!

It’s long overdue. Time to put BATJAC in production and these cowboys back in the saddle !

Big Jake is my all time favorite movie. My oldest son is named Jacob, my youngest son is Jon, and my dog is named Duke. ALL because of this movie. LOVE the "Duke"! ❤️ 🧡 💛

What a great show and a chance for the three men to share their experiences, respect & love of John Wayne. John was a great American & we needed his type of larger than life image. Kudos of this show & network to honor him in such a way! 🇺🇸❤🇺🇸

Mr. Wayne was someone to emulate. And I have for the whole of my life thus far. One of my favorite comments to make, "When appropriate"...." That'll be the day"! Remember? 😉

A little late watching this. When I sat my son down to watch this for his first time he was 6 or 7. When the scene of Jake Hitting his son for calling him Daddy my son looked up at me and said Daddy he acts like you! To this day I take that as a compliment and he loves calling me Daddy then laugh with a big grin.

My son, who is now in his mid 30's, called me Daddy since he was a kid. A couple of years ago I mentioned to him I've noticed that he never addresses by name anymore. No more "Hey Daddy!". He said that he feels like a little kid calling me "daddy". I always loved it because I was....daddy! So we agreed that he could address us as mom and dad but I still slip from time to time and mention my wife as "mommy" to him. I do miss being Daddy though.

Made it to the 50th anniversary of True Grit at the John Wayne Museum in Winterset. You can tell from my name what I think of Big Jake.

Hondo and Seachers the best ever! Great to see you guys so down to earth you are.

I'm in Houston, Tx. as of now. But I'm a transplant from Louisville, Ky. From a young age, I can remember having a horse. There were times I'd get off the school bus, jump on my horse. No saddle No bridle grab a hand full of horse main give the horse a shot with my heels and off we'd go for several hundred yards to a corner of fence to a full blown stop. Those were the days. As for westerns shows, I'd stop by my DAD'S and he'd be watching a westerns. I'd sit on the floor beside him and watch a westerns with him. I'll watch a John Wayne westerns in a drop of a hat. Or anything that is having to be about John Wayne. The Shooters I like the most. I feel like that's how the Dude would have like to leave this world. Just my opinion! But he's first Starring role as a actor. Brings out his own story of his career as a actor and the personality he became to be known as.

@John Wayne can you get hold of the scripts to all of John Wayne's cowboy films, and convert them into a series of novels for us all to enjoy? I'm sure there are plenty of us still around, to make it a viable project. 🤠 & 💯❣

Big Jake was my favorite Duke movie. Growing up, I had three heroes. My Pa,John Wayne, and Richard Petty.

We didn't have much money but we never missed a John Wayne movie. One year we had an old pickup and the back was filled with kids. My mom said thats the only time she had quiet time. Everyone loved him.

Yes two of the best ever. Robert Mitchum & John Wayne. Have watched Big Jake, McClintock, Eldorado, Rio Bravo, Rio Lobo, Chisum, Undefeated, Horse Soldiers. True Grit, Rooster Coburn, War wagon, Cowboy, The Searcher, Three God fathers, Cahill us Marshall, Sons of Kate Alder, Hundo, The shootis, She wore a yellow ribbon, Forth Apache, Liberty Valance, Longest Day, Tall in the Saddle, and loads more over and over and over never get tired of watching John Wayne or Robert Mitchum.

This was fun to watch. Would have been even cooler if they'd gotten Bobby Vinton, who played Jeff, the third son and Little Jake's father to be in it. Of all his leading ladies, Maureen O'Hara is by far my favorite. She played with Duke 5 times, and they were perfect together. Rio Grande, The Quiet Man (my favorite), Wings of the Eagles, McClintock!, and Big Jake- no woman was better across from him.

5 great films with radically different lead characters going through very different experiences. Yet the fast majority of the smooth brained Hollywood weasels insist John Wayne couldn't act 🙄

I love hearing storys about them on set with the Duke should have one with Robert Mitchum he is another great actor I like.

Yes great film Eldorado with John Wayne & Robert Mitchum and all the rest of the cast and crew in that made that film.

The liberals are also why John Wayne didn't win a lot of awards! It was super political back then as well. He was man enough and popular enough with the conservative audience that they couldn't stop him or change his mindset. He was awesome!

I'm a novelist and I have always wondered why the movie didn't end with the family reunon at the rance. A great chance for O'Hara to eat a little crow and accept the Duke back and the audience to get the payodff of that personal dynamic and what the entire movie had moved toward from the beginning. If anyone knows whether it was a script thing or O'Hara wasn't available plwase let me know.

HELP!!! I've written to Ethan Wayne a number of times over recent years, to various addresses. Some come back No Such Address, and others that don't come back, I assume they got somewhere near Ethan. But I've never gotten a response. Is he so locked up doing things his way, he can't listen to something a whole lot more productive and successful? Is he so busy that he can't be bothered to listen to a better way? A way to positively save lives?

Big Jake was a super good movie, there is no way to remake it and do it justice (don't mess with the best). True Grit and Red River, the remakes even though they had good actors were no where near as good as the original.

At 5'8" Maureen was a 'big woman'???? at JUST under 6', I find that gigglesome.... (though my grandmother was the tallest woman in her home town at 5'8" all through the 40's and 50's.
