When the players from the losing team, who win the Conn Smythe but lose the SC, are EMBARRASSED by the award, it's time to change it. If you have to FORCE the losing player to accept the award, the award ain't worth squat. Conn Smythe to Cup Winning Team only ... Or lose it. You're embarrassing the losing team "winners." Better idea. Move it to the awards show. Whoever wins it. My guess: Losing team player would prefer that. Even winning team player would prefer that since Conn Smythe is an individual award and takes away from the ultimate team award SC.

Why not just give the Conn Smythe at the NHL award night. It eliminates this debate completely.

Trophies go in a team's trophy cabinet and get written on their list of accolades. They're good as they are. I'll bet that 20 years from now we'll talk about the year that Connor was awarded the conn smyth when he went supernova even though Florida won the cup.

That participation trophy comment by Blake is absolutely ridiculous and a sign of myopic modern sports media thinking. It’s a trophy that represents impact over the ENTIRE playoffs. Anyone who weighs their entire vote on a moment, a game, or only a final series is totally missing the point of what the Conn Smyrhe trophy is all about.

*Anyone that thinks a player that just lost the championship will want a personal award totally misses the point of what the Stanley Cup is all about. No player dreams about winning a Conn Smythe since he was a kid. Why would you even think of presenting an individual (secondary) Trophy to a losing player amidst the celebration of a team that just won the championship. Only someone that's never played competitive sport wouldn't see a problem with this.*

@@AzNightmare I agree that the presentation absolutely needs to change if the winner is on the losing team. Give it out at the award ceremony days later. It’s not as raw then as minutes after the loss and if the winner still doesn’t want accept in person they could record a quick thank you video to be played during the awards ceremony. To call the Conn Smythe a participation trophy though is a very strange comment and misses the point of the trophy. The Cup is for winning it all. The Conn Smythe usually gets awarded to a member of that team but not always because it is a trophy given for a very different reason and that should be appreciated and respected.

I think it was respectful to the Panthers to not accept the reward
