John Scofield interviewed by Pablo Held PART II

Музыка

The great John Scofield returns to the podcast - and this time he brought his guitar! I absolutely love talking with Sco. To get ask him about his time with Paul Bley, Miles Davis, Elvin Jones and Jaco still is like a dream come true for me. And when he then takes out his guitar to demonstrate things from the music we talk about, like Carla Bley's classic 'Ida Lupino' or a couple of my favorite Sco tunes, I'm in total fan-boy mode!
I'm glad I get to share these moments with you. Thanks for watching & listening!

I love these interviews. I think that beyond the music it's a chance to get a glimpse of the humanity of these giants. And that, for me, only enriches their musical output

Great interview! It seems to be just like hanging out with Sco, probably because you guys are obviously friends and he's very much himself anyway. He mentioned Louie Shelton of the Wrecking Crew. Louie is still around and even has his own KZread page. In addition to "Last Train to Clarksville", which Sco mentioned, Louie also played the solo on Lionel Richie's "Hello", which my teen blues rock band used to play for fun and our edification only at rehearsals. In those pre-internet days, we used to wonder who that great soloist was. Our guess back then was George Benson.

Hello Pablo! Thanks for both interviews with Sco! Sco is my favorite jazz guitarist and I enjoyed listening to your conversation. Scofield got to play several Zappa themes (another musician I highly respect) with Duke and Cobham, as well as Govt Mule. I've always been interested in Sco's opinion about Zappa as a composer and musician - will you have the opportunity to ask him this question at your next meeting with Sco (if there is one planned)? Thank you!)

KZread always likes us to go on a search for 1. Why not just give us John Scofield interviewed by Pablo Held PART I? Then we can watch II next. Make sense? It makes PERFECTLY good sense to me. I want someone to agree out there. Let's give part 1 before part 2. Any other geniuses out there on the planet?

I love transcribing John Scofield songs, but I occasionally run into trouble, because his voicings can be pretty closed, and ambiguity of the harmony throws me off.
