    I saw john petrucci at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

    Did he also do that thing when he left where he reaches his hand out to shake hands with a stranger walking in and when they reach to shake his hand he pulls his back and smoothes his hair? He gets me every time with that. He wears those Raybans and does that Joe Camel 'thumbs up' to people all the time also.

    AXE FX 3 users - go to preset 88 "Petrucci Rig". He has a cloning effect using dual detune. This makes it sound like his live "double tracked" guitar. I'd recommend changing the delay time 1&2 to 5ms and 10ms. 11ms and 16ms is a little too chorus-y

    22:21 Correct me if I'm wrong, but since John has just stated his patch changes are now automatic, then this means that most excellent drummer, Mike Mangini, is always playing to a click track. While it's very nice for John to not have to do the tap dance thing, there's a bit less musical freedom on stage. Alternatively, and probably more likely, there could also be someone manning that off-stage laptop (all the time) and selecting his program changes in real time from there.

    I can not wait to hear the hate, BUT I do not like this man's music. HOWEVER I love him as a resource for Mesa Boogie amps. And he seems like a lovely person. I actually think he would show respect for my use of some of the same gear. Fanboys...calm down. Mr. Petrucci, your work with/explanation of the Triaxis has been SO helpful. I love your attention to routing and usage. I just make different music than you...and I suck hard vs you as a guitar player (OBVIOUSLY, which works for my style of music). Keep on being a lovely, dedicated sound sculptist and the rest of us will find our usage from your kindly showing us your set ups. You are a great man (despite my previously stating my not being into Dream Theater). Great sound and how to get there is separate from style of music. Petrucci has (to me) always embodied that.

    How do you have the compressor only on the clean channel with this setup? I did that with my ADA MP-1 for years. Just curious? I have been leaving my compressor always on. I use Xotic SP on mild. I wish there was a Compressor that would detect when overdrive channel is on/off automatically.

  • @jimshomestudio4669

    @jimshomestudio4669

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi James. The RJM Mastermind allows you to program routes. If your MP1 clean needs a compressor in there, your route would be guitar-MP1-Comp-Amp for that patch and you would just take it out for the distortion patch. So it would stay always on, but the RJM is handling it’s routing. Sound Sculpture makes similar devices. Gig Rig, Voodoo Labs, Rocktron also come to mind.

    @@jimshomestudio4669 Thanks I didn't observe how it was connected. I forgot about devices like the Rocktron Patchmate would do that. I loved how the ADA MP-1 preamp had the compressor built in the solid state clean channel.
