“On those hard nights when you were so close, sleeping beside the man you were supposed to be with, I’d tell myself that if you would just show up and ask me, I would have taken this collar off and I would have gone with you. I would have gone with you anywhere in the world.” That dialogue killed me.

The “he would stare at me just like that, all the time” line is tragic in its own way. She thought he was watching on in judgement and hatred all her life when he was really watching on as a loving father, probably weighing up each time whether to approach her and tell her the truth but always siding against it. When he finally got the chance to explain it was their last time together.

"And it never felt like a sin, that was the thing. You never felt like a sin. And our daughter, oof no she was never a sin, she was never a mistake." If that's not the most heart-rending and romantic piece of dialogue in fiction, I don't know what is.

​@@CarrotFlowers421 I loved his character all along as he really wanted it to be good for everyone. The things he was trying to change and the tools he used were bigger than himself and what he could control.

When he catches Sarah priming the church for the fire and says "good" then tells her how proud he is of her and how he wishes he had a relationship with her got me.

Really, the whole show should have been about these two. Their story was beautiful and heartwrenching.

@@RossetaStoned91 I actually found the subtlety nice. I've watched it 3 times and noticed some beautiful touches. Here are a couple of them. 1) Notice Fr. Paul's eyes well up with tears during his first visit. 2) Mildred is the first one to recognize him as Pruitt, albeit a younger version. Even in her dementia, she is still excited to see him. So while their love story was in the background, it was very slowly and methodically built up to the finale, and also humanizes Fr. Paul/Pruitt. He's not a saint. He's not an irreparable villain. He was just a man in love who suffered from a feverish fanaticism in a perceived attempt to rescue Mildred, and the rest of the island. Such a good series! Honestly still hits me in the feels.

Out of all the plot twists and crazy stuff, when he said Sarah was his daughter I literally gasped and was like omgomgong

I am so obsessed with them and what they had. Unreal chemistry.

This is such a wonderful, lovely and well-edited video. Beautifully done. You really capture the bittersweet reunion between John and Mildred. John's monologue only enhances that. I love it!!!

oh dear. my heart. i dont know if it was the rawness...the nearly emotionless way he explains his whole heart so simply in these lines - or if its the way you presented the scene once again, but this was so gorgeous. i thought of editing the show just for them, but didn't know if I could truly do them justice. this was an art piece. you are a true talent.

i just finished the show and wow...jfirst of all, this edit, you managed in two minutes to show us many stuff. I wish we could see their background story, like a flashback, it would be sad and beautiful. So, John did many mistakes,he bring the vampire to the island, because he thought he was an Angel of God. He lied and.. only to keep mildred and sarah alive. to earn a forever with them. He wanted a family, he wanted to live with the love of his life and his little daugther. and he didnt had this chance because other people to made mistakes. and then chaos came. and when sarah said that the priest (aka john) when she was younger looked at her with a strange face like he knew, she thought it was because she was a lesbian (correct me if im wrong) but it was because she was his daugther. btw, this is an amazing for a amazing show. Mike Flanagan is so talented and clever, i watched the haunting of hill house and the haunting of bly manor and i loved both of them. they are my favorite shows actually (including dark, great show u should watch it) and this show?lord this was the final piece. As a christian, i was never really close to God, and also as queer person i received hate for many 'christian lovely and good people' so i was really planning to watch the show, i was avoiding it but im glad i watch it. anyway thats my comment, i can talk for hours
