John Mee - Award Winning Walking Stick and Staff Maker
Meet the Maker introduces John Mee, and award-winning walking stick and staff maker based in the Peak District National Park, in the UK.
John's family have lived in the tiny Derbyshire village of Cromford for six generations, and all the wood he uses is ecologically sourced from the local land. Mostly he uses Beech, Blackthorn, Hazel, Holly and of course Birch which is an iconic tree of the Northern Boreal forests that still scatter across this land.
Working sticks and staffs rather than ornamental display pieces, John uses skills passed down from father to son. In this video you'll hear the living history of this place, of an artisanal craft still practised, and measure the deep love John has for this area of outstanding natural beauty - "nothing could be finer".

Thank you, your very kind comments are much appreciated. I know John is touched that people are watching the video and enjoying his work. In the Spring I'll be joining him on one of his ventures to find new sticks, and videoing his work from tree to finished product.
Nicely done sir, it seems a peaceful hobby, finding and also, crafting.
